    Who's the real hero?

After reading another thread about how great Tatuaje is it got me thinking. Who's the real genius behind them? I know Pete Johnson is the one in charge of the company, but if I'm not mistaken all his stuff is made by Peppin. Then you have Crowned Heads most of their stuff also made by Peppin. Peppin's own stuff is generally loved by everyone. Are guys like Johnson and Huber actually doing the blending and then Peppin's factory just makes them? Or do they give have an idea for what they want out of a cigar and Peppin blends it?

Just something I've been thinking about, and still be fairly new to cigars I don't remember seeing this discussed before.

Joking aside, from what little I have read (emphasis on "little"), I believe it to be a collaborative effort. Like a restaurateur might take the idea for a dish to his chef, naming the primary ingredients he wants to use, and possibly explaining their characteristics that he enjoys from other dishes he may have eaten, and then his chef uses his experience and knowledge to try and bring it to fruition.

I was wondering the same thing.
My Father and DPG are some of my favorite cigars.
I've only had 2 Tats, a Tattoo and a small brown label. Both good.
I definitely need to try out some more Tats and the other blends they have worked on!
Does anyone have an up-to-date list of the cigars the Pepins blend?

As far as I know all of Pete Johnson's lines are made there, which are Tatuaje, L'Atelier, and Surrogates. All of the Crowned Heads LE's plus Jericho Hill. I'm not about any others

A couple of guys from a local shop went to the tobacco farms and factorys a couple yrs back and one of their story's is that there are blenders that take the ideas from the guys and try to get a tobacco that matches. The guys locally that went found a blend they loved and bought it...

Its been said that Pepin is a master at this..blending, rolling and growing and Pete is a good business man..I think with the right tools and right product it wouldn't be hard to have success.

I guess there were some guys buying up small batches of un-named cigars and marketing them and the reviews came out and they were sub par??

This is just my opinion from my reading and conversations with people who have done it.

Last point it's been said the original Tat Black was PJ's personal blend before it went to market and the rumor was at one time JFRs were Pepin's... Truth in all that who knows.
