    Happy Veterans Day!

I am not sure I will have time for one today but if I do it's going to be a Diesel Unlimited. Nothing special or fancy as all my friends and I in the Army couldn't afford anything more than that.

Today is Mrs Smokeys birthday and I will be driving about 50 minutes away to pickup and bring her birthday supper home this afternoon. And I have much to think about and remember on my short trip. I will smoke something special on this special day in honor of our brave veterans and service members across the globe.

GOD BLESS AMERICA AND THE BRAVE HEROS WHO SERVE OUR COUNTRY!!

My thoughts and prayers are also with the Americans still trapped in Afghanistan! Fuck global warming, bring our people home!
    Was he in Marseille?

On my last deployment, we stopped in Marseille for a port visit. While on shore patrol, I was transporting our sailors to/from town along with the tourists coming to CVN-77. There was an old Frechman I sat next to and spoke with while we drove into town. He pointed out many WWII historic points, mostly old buiding that were used for hospitals, barracks, and whatever else. Doubt a prison was there, but very well may've been.

Matt, I don’t recall him saying where in France he was. He rarely mentioned his service. I wish he was still living so I could learn more.

Armistice Day, still remember 11 11 this way.
Lit at 11.11 Am, expecting a good long smoke.

Burn time: Give or take a few seconds a full two hours.

I was gonna post this yesterday:

    https://www.usa.gov/military-records#item-35357

You can request his records, especially being next of kin. You should at least get his DD1149 - a brief summary of his service, and it's also a military separation document. Not sure what else you'll get, but worth the look.

Happy Birthday Mrs Smokey. Like You I was never in the Military. Armistice Day and memorial Day have always been the two Holidays which mean a lot for Me. My Father was in the !st Division Engineers in France. While in France I traveled around visited Military Cemeteries, and a goodly number of Monuments to the American and Expeditionary Forces in a number of towns. Lots of places, Churches left in ruins as a result of the fighting. so many buildings still bearing scars of shelling, bullet holes. They force you to stand and reflect on the destruction of that now long past wartime. The War To End All Wars.Just listened to this song before going out to smoke. Sure makes Me reflect on those lost in War.

2001 Saint Luis Rey Double Corona

Very tasty. Still a fair amount of flavor after 20 years. 1st half was very mild, but picked up nicely in the 2nd half.

Draw was a little tight, but didn't want to risk cracking the wrapper using a draw tool as has happened with many very aged cigars, so smoke volume in the first half was less than I prefer, but it too picked up in the second half.

    Burn and construction were perfect

Overall, one of the better 20 year old smokes I have had.
