will bum for cigar
Girlfriend and I packed the dogs up in the truck and we went to Ithaca NY over 4th of July Weekend for a little get away. Did a ton of hiking and got a chance to go to Sampson state park which used to be Sampson Naval Training Station in the early 40s which is where my grandfather did his training which was neat to get to be where he trained at for WWII. That was our summer vacation
Happiness? A good cigar, a good meal, a good cigar and a good woman - or a bad woman; it depends on how much happiness you can handle- George Burns

Great minds think alike.
We made plans to hit Harris on our way home from Davis
The beef is just better there than here.
Unfortunately time got away and we just decided to keep going and got home.
Enjoy Catalina’s new runway. Provide me a pirep please.

Next month i fly my best friend to Catalina Island for his 46th. We will spend the weekend there and stop at Harris Ranch on the return for steaks.
I will be getting a full brisket to smoke for September.

Jumpin’ Railcars and Collectin' Cans
The wife and I are heading up and over to Cheyenne Wy tomorrow for a long weekend. Kind of vacation and kind of scouting the area to see if we'd like to live there. Job opportunity there, but we're not sure if the mountains are close enough for us, or if we'd be disgusted living on flat land until retirement comes around.
Wyoming is our preferred retirement area, but one of the parts more mountainous than the Eastern plains section of the state.

Update.
Update:
Last vacation was a few weeks shy of thirty five years ago,1985.
Sitting smoking on front porch the view of the back of the Mail box is starting to bore me.
Destination, duration still uncertain, but think it's about time for a change of scenery.
Too darn hot & humid for me here...have to pick some place a good deal cooler.
Tard of these high temps & humidity.
Decided on destination...Mild climate *Cooler & less humidity.
Recent power outage meant no air con or fan...sure looking forward to a break.
Going real early Saturday 27th.
May send pix once thar.

Thanks yeah, Harris ranch has a narrow runway so it'll be my challenge to nail the centerline and grease it.
I'm really looking forward to landing at catalina. That new runway is so beautiful. The SeaBees and Marine Expeditionary Force did a fantastic job on such a short time.

Sure beats pothole alley as it was before.
I've landed on Catalina with rented airplanes (non-retract), and wasn't looking forward to taking our Lance there.
The new runway is making it all the better!
Now the question in - when am I going? Not like it's a far haul for me.

I didn't even know it was shut down until AOPA had the article about the reopening. Blew me away how fast the navy took care of business. I also couldn't believe they received $150k a year on maintenance and it was still getting worse by the day.
Glad to know there won't be any FOD on the runway to knock out any squat switches.
