Perfectoohhnoo!
I tried my first perfecto, and it didn't go well. I lit the foot, got the first 1/4 inch of it glowing, and still couldn't get any draw through it. I tried blowing through it, which did get some wisps of smoke to come out, but still no draw. Took my soft flame lighter to it to light it some more, nothing. Even my double butane torch lighter didn't help.
Am I supposed to light the entire first inch or something, or just the tip? I used a cedar spill initially, focusing on the tip of the foot. Am I supposed to wait five or ten minutes for the lit foot to smolder?
It also didn't help that the head ended up being full of stems. I counted eight stems in it after I clipped it with my guillotine.
Edit: Also, the foot was torpedo shaped, unlike most perfectos.

If its a turd stick no matter what vitola it is its still going to be a turd stick.

It was just a bad stick. Hell I've had plugged Tatuajes, L'Ateliers and a few plugged Cubans. I don't think it's indicative of the vitola or the brand. It just happens from time to time. Makes for a miserable smoke.
We're going to need a bigger humidor

I know the plug didn't help, but my question was more about lighting a perfecto. Do you just light the entire "nipple" of the foot, then start trying to draw through it as it burns, or do you light the foot and then expect to wait a bit?

The plug was your problem!
A double perfecto lights & burns like any other cigar.
No draw, plug = bad experience!

Just light it and start drawing. It will be tight at first but will open up once the burn reaches the wider part of the cigar.

I've only ever lit the very tip. They've just spread evenly for me. Easiest vitola ever for lighting for me. Sorry you had a crap experience.

Reminds me of my first wife...no matter how much I sucked, it was always plugged...
Like my father before me, I will work the land,
And like my brother before me, I took a rebel stand.
