I've given up due to this a few times, but never before about half way. For flavor, The last I tossed was an Alec Bradley...think it was Family Reserve. It tasted like a cigarette...yuck.

No offense but those are not really premium cigars. I am not saying they are bad cigars, but I would not call them premium, chalk it up to changing tastes or just a couple bad cigars.

    Forget em and move on

For me it was a Rodrigo Corona Project. Loved the flavor but just couldn't keep the damn thing lit. Only stick I've tossed so far this year.

Don't think I have ever given up on a smoke in the first half for flavor issues. OP, are you saying that you save cigars to smoke later after putting them out? I tried that once and it was a horrible experience.

Well, several of you have inspired me now to whip out the cutter next time.

H-man, I smoke during my 20-25mins to work. So, I can usually start one in the am, and have it fairly well-finished on the drive home.
You just have to follow a couple of tips, and you will find that MOST sticks are agreeable with at least one re-light this way.

I cut-off the cherry with my Swiss knife, preferrably. Or, at least knock it mose of the way off with the edge of my key, or a suitable surface like a concrete block wall. Definitely do not 'tamp' it out, as one would with a cigarette. Then, blow forward to purge whatever smoke is in there. Lastly, I put it into a cigarillo tin, or tube of some sort, so that it doesn't dry-out too much while in the heat of my car. In the house, I may slip it back into its cello, If I can.

    hell to the no.

    100% NO!

If the stick have been out for at most 5-10 mins its done for.
whatever dead smoke is in there (even after a purge) well Funk-defy that cigar like Estelle Gettys dead crotch.

i have to agree with shemp on this on. relights are just not worth it at all. why risk the flavor after it out. relights are more for someone who smokes cigars instead of cigarettes. i work with a guy that smokes the same backwoods on smoke breaks instead of cigarettes

I have tossed several sticks within an inch. I have tossed a couple sticks after 1/2 inch in even. Not worth my time to give them a chance. Mostly they are cheaper sticks. If it is a known descent or good stick I will give them an honest chance. But I have not bought a cheap stick since early on in the hobby. I have tossed a Curley head, Quorum(first week of the hobby and recommended by tobacco shop, yeah I don't go there anymore as it is pretty much a cigarette shop.) I have tossed Macanudo's, Gurkhas, and a few others. Yes I know most of these are not expected to blow your mind. These were all before I was on a cigar forum for guidance. Now I read reviews before I venture out to buy cigars. Rookie mistakes
