Two words:
Window Fan
Like several others the garage is what I do. If it's attached it's just a short walk and works great as a man cave.
I have smoked in the house, but only when kids and wife were out for a couple of days Had a fan going the whole time smoking and no one noticed when they got back. It has been a long time since I have had that opportunity, but would do it again, if I had a day or so to air out the house. Mostly the Garage for me. Sometimes outside, sometimes cigar bar when out on the town or too cold.
A funny aside. My first cigar (or so), I jokingly asked my wife if I could smoke in the basement and she said yes. Well I knew that I shouldn't, so I stepped out to smoke and came back in. She walked by me and said that she changed her mind, no more smoking in the house. I told her that smell was just me after having smoked. I was then greeted with a big eye roll and head shake. Heh Heh Heh.
I smoke inside all the time because idgaf. If someone doesn't like it they know where the door is.
I do use open windows, Pur Ayre, and activated charcoal. I've had numerous people tell me they can't even tell I smoked the day before.
Austin Air makes a nice air purifier. The filter reportedly lasts FIVE YEARS, and they will prorate you the cost of a new one if it doesn't.
If I didn't really care about the smell of my garage I'd probably invest in one.
We have a spare bedroom I use sometimes in the winter. Simply open the window and have the air purifier blow out the window. No real smoke smell problems. Once I move I am converting a basement bedroom to a smoking lounge, and will likely live in that house for a good long time so no worries about any lingering smell down there.
I set-up my computer 'station' next to the sliding glass door leading out to my backyard. The door is to my right. On my left, at about 10 o'clock, I have one 12" turbo-fan aimed straight out that door. The airflow is about parallel with the wall my computer is up against. To my left at about 8 o'clock, is a small 16" tower fan, aimed mostly toward the face of my computer. I've fanangled it such that the vast majority of the smoke exits my mouth and is blown outside to my right, through the open door.
When I enter the room after being away for awhile, I'm not smelling anything lingering around. To be sure, the ozium or Febreeze are handy if I ever do. The downside is, the airflow is not powerful enough to defeat the flys that intrude, LOL. Thus, a little investment is fly-strips and fly-paper for the windows, which they invariably are attracted to in seeking exit.

Reminds me of a neighbor I used to have. He was retired and smoked cigarettes inside his small place. He was a shut-in and had been there so long that not only were all the windows yellow with tar buildup, but the tar had gotten so thick that you could see ripples where it was starting to slowly, slowly drip and run down.
It's not a real hobby unless it interferes with your work.
