    Smoking Room Conversion

I’ve broken my own rule of “No Smoking in the House”

Got tired of being uncomfortable outside in the cold. Even with my patio heater, it can only do so much, especially with any amount of wind, which we get often here in the Great Plains.

I’ve previously relegated myself to the garage with a kerosene heater, but even that doesn’t bring the comfort of smoking indoors.

I am in the process of taking over and converting a no longer used bedroom in my basement, previously occupied by one of my sons.
Took the bed down. Working on repairing the wood floor that has some water damage. Need to repair and paint the walls.

It’s still pretty rough. A wicker patio chair, side patio table, and a left behind nightstand to place my ashtray and beverage.
I acquired a Room Air Purifier fitted with an odor-eliminating carbon filter. At least I’m warm and out of the weather in these winter months.

I will be mounting a spare TV. Soon, will relocate my wineador and cigar totes and outfit with a mini frig. after the remodeling work is done. Maybe add some shelves for a few bottles and glasses? Bonus, I now have easier electrical access for my electronic devices. It has an operating window I can open for enhanced ventilation. Been thinking of plans for an exhaust system to the outside to better ventilate the space. Shouldn’t be too difficult as it’s on an outside wall. I did learn, I have to close the vents, or keep the HVAC blower running for positive pressure, or the smoke enters the ducts and spreads to other areas of my home, like my bedroom 2 stories up. My wife wasn’t thrilled Smoking Room Conversion, and neither was I.
As long as I do this and keep the door closed, it contains the smoke aroma pretty well. It is only detectable in the adjoining unfinished portion of my basement.

It has an attached bathroom, so I foresee a space I will rarely have to leave.

I still have to clear out the rest of the stuff my son left behind. I did close off the open closet so his remaining clothes don’t get smoke laden.

Nothing worthy of pics at this time. It’s a work in progress.

I will probably also bring in a small desk for a PC at some point.

Edit: OK, here is my corner so far.

If it never gets beyond its current state, I’m still ahead.

I think it looks like a pretty decent little setup already. You got the necessities to enjoy a cigar, so anything else is gravy.

Just a personal opinion, i wouldn't bother repainting the walls personally, any kind of smoke, fire, cigarette or cigar, coats the walls with a thin film of tar quickly, especially in a small room, so unless your ventilation has pretty rapid, full room air exchange, you'll just be scrubbing or repainting in the future.

I know this from being a cigarette smoker along with the ex-wife. After the first apartment where we had to scrub nicotine and tar off the living room walls, the rule became not indoor cigarettes inside ever again.

I'm sure cigars are just as bad or worse. Just something to think about before you bother painting yet unless the current paint is already trashed, I'd wait until you can start to see dulling or yellowing of the paint before bothering.

Also, white paint is the worst for this obviously, get the darkest off-white you can. Would make a big difference.

For ventilation, a simple window fan is easy, cheap, and gives the best exchange.

I was allowed to smoke cigars indoors in the house we were renting though as the ex loved the smell, plus all landlords are crooks and will find or invent reasons to keep your deposit, so we just considered it a loss from day one anyway.

very much miss my days of sitting in my ultra comfy recliner with a trash can on the left, and bedroom night stand on the right to hold ashtray, supplies, drinks, daily smokes wooden humidor, and antique, nickel plated oil lamp for awesome nighttime ambiance.

    I friggin love cigars
