Bear in mind that virtually ALL NC's are intended to be smoked ROTT. As far as "aging" goes, that means it really comes down to nothing but personal preference. Stronger cigars will become weaker, if perhaps better "married", both in terms of strength as well as flavor and body. What that means is, if you prefer a stronger, more full-bodied smoke, aging NC's isn't for you.

As stated above, Liga's, as well as Padrons are not for aging, but are better enjoyed "fresh". If I had a nickle for every time I've changed my tune on aging Opus X, hell, I could afford a box of Forbiddens!

I think this is the story for many of us...we tend to buy more than we smoke so there is a lot of unintentional aging. My major issue is I buy a lot of high end stuff that I never can get myself to fire up for the average monday evening smoke and then I end up sitting on all these premiums that I am waiting for a "special occasion" to smoke. Next thing I know they have 2-3 years on them and I wonder if they are now past their prime

I smoked an Anejo No. 50 that I got in a blind sampler here on the bum. It had 3-4 years on it and I will say it was the absolute best cigar I've ever smoked.
Don't know what they're like ROTT but I know what they're like with a few years on them. Wow.

I'd say 90% of the cigars I smoke are good to go once they get acclimated. Exceptions mainly being new releases or LEs. A lot of times they're way too fresh to really enjoy for a few months IMO because they've kind of been rushed out to retailers and on to customers. The first out of the box ends up being a dog rocket compared to the last 5er or so.
Oddly though I don't think Tats smoke well until they've had a little longer than most sticks after getting acclimated. Something about them is still rough around the edges but after about 2 months they get back in their groove.

Thank you kind Sir for gracing us with your presence!
I miss your input. I've learned a lot from you in the past two years. Thx for making us Bums!
Yes, I remember reading a post where most NC's are "aged" before they get to us. So I completely understand your statement.

Especially now that it soon starts getting COLD!
I'm of the school of buying what you like & smoking them. I don't sit on much except the HTF/LE & stuff I want to get more of before I smoke what I have.

Añjeos are some of the few NC's that I hear age well & are worth sitting on.

I find that some of the "less expensive" NC blends rest/age & get "better"! Bueso Genesis is a prime example. And I'm not into the "yard gars."

I can't smoke anything ROTT anymore. Obviously I had to when starting out but I ran into too many that were awful or mediocre that I liked after resting.

To me, now that I have around 400 cigars, resting has no downsides. I've never smoked something and thought "Wow that was better ROTT!"
It's not a real hobby unless it interferes with your work.

Some,at least, of the Don Pepin Garcia/My Father cigars certainly do well with some age/rest on them.
Tho I don't age age or rest anything, don't have time for that.
Boxes of Pepins/My Fathers I've gotten with two-four years age on them all smoked really nice.

I totally agree with Upstatemax. CAO's are notoriously great to smoke fresh after buying them.
