2013 La Aurora Corojo #4 with light coffee on a very mid-Fall kind of morning.

I had this one cut and ready to go as my final smoke of the night (~11pm). Put it in my mouth, tasted the tip and woke up at 4am with it dangling, none the worse for the wear and ready to be lit. Too bad no one took a picture, you guys would have appreciated it and it would have been perfect next to my obituary.

Long ago I developed a preference for coronas by La Aurora over their thicker rings. I liked the pack, draw and flavor intensity. A nice corojo but I would have enjoyed this leaf more at night.

The Gran Toro and Torpedo are on sale at CigarsInternational @$69.99 a box of 25 but the #4 (the one that I'm smoking) is not @$140.99. $2.80/stick.

    Morning David,

I don't mean to detour this (sanctified) thread however you raise a philosophical point that I've been grappling with ever since the Adrian Peterson child abuse story hit the news last year.

To my sensibilities, Peterson went too far when he used a switch to discipline his 4yo son but it was the discipline that he knew and he was (certainly in his mind) taking responsibility as a parent. Peterson has been reviled and he lost a year of his career so he's had punishment but for what crime? Not having the same values as (the general) society that has no standards nor guidelines so that parents wilt from their responsibilities in fear of recrimination?

When I became a grandparent I did what I couldn't have done as a (new) parent, I devised a cogent discipline plan that requires time and effort and no possibility of spanking (it's not my place). Our society, in perception and law, stands ready to punish without having clearly stated what the rules are. Why aren't parenting classes mandatory just as driving courses are? Is the raising of our children less important than getting to the mall?

There is a difference between abuse and discipline but we, as a society, expect it to be intuitive when it's not because parenting is a difficult business and circumstances require different response and approach. I support mandatory expectant parental education but not the elimination of 'the hand to the butt' that, when rarely and judiciously applied (not with a lot of force), has been an important parenting tool for millennia. Our society's future depends on it.

    Regards,

    Pete

Not sure of my next smoke as this La Aurora Corojo corona has some mileage remaining.
