Sometime after they introduced La Unica they overhauled the Cuesta-Rey line but I've not tried them (handmade again). My posts may sound as if I don't like Cuesta-Rey (cigar or company) but that's not true, I respect that they did an about face with their quality and surprised the industry when they introduced the La Unica that changed perception about bundles, their company and even Fuente.

My chemistry seems to agree with Senor Fernandez cigars and this Pinolero is no exception. It's the E.T. version (extra testicle) of his La Herencia Cubana, same flavor profile but more depth, spice and complexity. Big, spicy snork.
Those earlier cigars from Cuesta Rey were indeed very good on a par with the Berings, lot differing in taste. Priced exactly the same I think.
Not sure of the names of the varied sizes of either brand, as I recall the prices of either brand went some where along this line 20 - 40 - 60 - 80 Cents.
One thing I do recall clearly is that the next to highest priced were a lot better than their largest, which I'm pretty certain was a Churchill, tho cant recall the exact length and ring size. Back then the Corona size was a big cigar, Lonsdale Panatela (Lancero?) were more of a Gentlemans afternoon/evening smoke with the Churchills being
being the attention getters. Lots of Perfectos. The Claro Claro or double Claro were the Green Cigars, much more popular then than now, tho not selling anywhes as many as the EMS. Think the Philadelphias,White Owls, Dutch Masters and El Productos were the big sellers.
Keep wondering if that other, white and gold banded cigar might have been a Perfecto Garcia., or Garcia y Vega. A couple of other brands that I do recall from about that period were Marsh Wheeling, White Ash and House of Windsor, which I thin were a Philadelphia cigar.
