LaUnica were bundles back in the late 90s...when I used to smoke a ton of them. I remember there were the 100, 200, 300 and 400 in both Connecticut and maduro. Prices in NY were like $2.50 to $4.50 from robusto to a big 8x50 (the 100). They were a great deal and a very good Dominican smoke. Now I see they have graduated to boxes and the 100 sells for about $7 in NY. Still worth it though.

They introduced La Unica, a handmade, long filer Dominican and despite my initial skepticism, it was very good and became a hit for them. Soon the Cuesta-Rey was reintroduced as a handmade, long filled cigar as well.

About to finish the Oliva "O" that was quite good and I've selected a 2013 Gurkha Signature Collection Double Toro to smoke next but I won't be surprised if I'm posting that in the morning instead.
Thanks for the info on the Cuesta Rey they were one of few brands I can recall from way back then...smoked them over a period of about thirteen years. 1951 to 1963-64. So missed the period you mentioned when they'd gone over to the packaged type. Had to be aware they were out there, but was still surprised when a
Wholesaler told me "Sure they still make good cigars." That was perhaps 5 -7 years ago. I did pick up a box of the 4.7" size, and they were ok. Tho something from Camacho in the same size was a whole lot better, got those at the same time as I did the Cuesta Rey. Unless I'm mistaken the Cuesta Rey, and another (long gone?) brand that sported a high class white and gold band were handmade, and along with Berings very good smokes. All EMS.

Looks like threesomes are not my thing!

Los Calaveras 2014 LE LC-54...7x54 Lit this at about 11:18Am on Wednesday. This date is the only one on which try always to smoke a cigar I'm certain to enjoy that will also provide a decently long amount of time for reflection on the meaning of the day and all that that entails. For me this is as close as I come to smoking something special to mark a certain date or event. And, yest it was a fine smoke.
Been having computer problems for the best part of the last 24 hours, hope fixed for now.

This morning's smoke was a Paul Stulac Classic Bend Lord Lonsdale...6x44. Coffee and the cigar made this rainy morning a bit less damp and dreary.
