Hi Bob,
I believe that General Cigar made Montecristo and Partagas and Consolidated made Don Diego and H. Upmann in the Canary Islands. These were the main players but there were some others that escape me now. The General brands were top drawer but Consoldated (under Dick DiMeola) really slipped before they moved to the Dominican Republic (and improved considerably). As I remember, the Canary Island cigars mostly used Cameroon wrappers that were more highly prized them. Mild, smooth and well made cigars were the most expensive but by today's standards they'd be medium priced. No super premiums in those days.
The original Mario Palomino was my favorite Jamaican, sort of a cross between Macanudo and Royal Jamaica, like a fuller Mac. The brand has had at least two incarnations over the years that I tried. The most recent I tried from the Devil site a couple of years ago, Dominican made, attempting to reproduce their Jamaican heritage but the sweetness is with citrus rather than the honey-molasses of the original. The new ones are incredibly light bodied, bit over packed with a fragile wrapper but inexpensive. Palomino was pretty well regarded in their heyday, 1970s and before, perhaps second in reputation only to Macanudo.
Flor de Jamaica was very well made and may have been a proprietary marque of Faber, Coe and Gregg. Short story is that I got stuck with 8 boxes of maduro Churchills that I gradually smoked through.

2013 Torano Colisseum Churchill. Supposed to be a 49 ring but looks, feels like a 47 but not a bad smoke.

2013 Xikar HC Maduro Belicoso. Nice budget smoke but it's not medium-full, more mild-medium.
2012 Romeo y Julieta 1875 Bully (robusto). Enjoying a beautiful day reading the fifth (of seven) book in the Accursed Kings series, The She Wolf by Maurice Druon. My daughter is studying for her stroke certification with me. Water with ice and Ottmar Liebert in the background.
Hope that you all are having as nice as day as it is here.
Joya de Nicaragua Antano Dark Corojo Poderoso Torpedo
Ya he was pretty well worn out by then. Throwing the ball for him is usually split equally between him actually bringing it back and me going to get it so I can throw it again :)
He came over and laid down next to me on the patio and passed out shortly after that picture was taken.
2013 Rocky Patel Connecticut Toro.

Burn is dead nuts, nice flavors (if only I could accurately describe what I'm tasting!), the finish is a little short right now, but hopefully that changes, nice aroma (would love to smoke one of these indoors to see wha the room note would be like.
I read this years is a different wrapper. Gonna have to pick up a pak or two.

The first 1/5 seemed a bit rough, but it seems to be smoothing out a bit now that I'm an inch in.

2013 Torano COlisseum Churchill.
Back to reading The She Wolf (Druon), ordered (Amazon natch) Fire in the East (first of the Warrior of Rome series by Harry Sidebottom. After I've read it I'm going to put this book on the shelf next to Systems Software Tools by Ted Biggerstaff.
Perhaps I'll fill out the shelf with my biography of Albrecht Altdorfer by Ludwig von Baldass. A brilliant dissertation.
Still on country with water and icebergs.
Hope that your day is going well. Hump day tomorrow!

2013 Cinco Vegas Fifty-Five. I was a bit apprehensive about this one, not much fresh but age becomes it well. Pretty nice smoke now, reminds of the Romeo 1875 I smoked recently but brighter though with less body and nuance but that's still scaling the wall for this stick.

It's a good stick but it had trouble holding up to the Defiant whiskey. My mistake. Good stick, good drink, bad pairing.
This is a bit of an odd ball:

This was in a humidor given to me by a buddy that decided he was not interested in smoking anymore. Needless to say, it was abused. The humidor went through sometime of zero maintenance...
In an effort to make some use of these and the humidor, I infused the humidor with bourbon (Knob Creek) and let several cigars from that humidor sit for the past year. Once a month I would re-fresh the humidor with a fresh shot of bourbon for 72 hours.
I have to assume this cigar lost A LOT of it's original flavor from its abuse. It started with a bit of spice for the first 3/4" and switched mainly to a very mellow and slightly sweet profile, creamy. Some earthy, woodsy flavors would pop up every once in a while and quickly fade...
I have never had a proper Pinolero, so it's hard for me to say how much damage was done and how much the bourbon changed the profile...
Joya de something or other Fuerte (I threw away the band)
2013 Rocky Patel Connecticut Toro. I've never bought a box of these, obtaining what I have in samplers, etc., but they're in all my humidors. What's a gut to do but smoke 'em up. Water with ice and a nip of warmed Gekkikan sake.
