What's up with all the insane giant ring gauge cigars? I don't get out very often, but the last couple of times to the shop and cigar bars have been very disappointing - more than half the stock are practically as wide as they are long. Bring back the lancero! Or at least the corona!

A couple years ago I caught a cigarguys podcast that talked about the trend. They mentioned when the Toro came out it was huge and now its just "normal" today.

LOL. I remember seeing many years ago a "Sopranos" - labeled gift set that included one cigar the size and shape of a kid's football. As I recall, it was bigger than the Opus football. But maybe it has just grown in my memory. Like that 140-pound flathead catfish I caught ...

Makes me wonder what demographic they are trying to appeal to?

I enjoy smoking cigars that are comically large or odd. I think 6x60 people percieve a bang for the buck. Over all like any size sometimes you find one that really shines but I think most are just gimicky.

I agree with Ryan - I think the perceived value is in the bigger ring cigars. They can have them, rather have a lance any day !

There are some lanceros that are great but them small ring gauges feel like a kid toy in my hand. Honestly you should give a 60 a try sometime. While big its still at what i would consider a doable size. Above that without some sort of tapered tip and you are in gimic territory. You get a bug ring but a nice chisel tip or belicoso tip and it can be very enjoyable similar to smoking a toro.

Yeah - I've smoked a few 60s - just don't like the esthetics, even if the cigars smoke and taste OK. Especially unpleasant if you use a V-cut, if you know what I mean ...

Not as bad with a bit of a chisel tip, but still just an ugly cigar in my eyes.

I feel you. While talking oddities, what about culebra cigars? how do we feel about those? If I had two other friends I would smoke them but sadly I dont.

It took me forever to try a Culebra. Hell, sometimes a well-known maker's straight cigar has draw issues, how are three tied in a knot going to smoke?

I've been shocked at how well they smoke and burn and wouldn't hesitate to split one up with @Tombstone
