I'm very picky, but I don't think I'm picky along your standards. What I mean is, I just love cigars for what they are; the highest expression of the "art", or "artfulness" in tobacco. I just appreciate that. Beyond that sort of fundamental thought, I then get into the fact that I just like what I like. I really like maduros and I like cigars that are bold and robust, yet complex and not strong for the sake of strength. Within those personal boundaries, I find that I really enjoy roughly a dozen non-Cuban cigars and about 1-1/2 dozen Cuban cigars. That's where any of my efforts go these days, whether I'm just entering credit card numbers, or working a trade. I have my little coven of cigars and that's just what I like.

One of the things I love most about our forum is that it allows me to enjoy the stuff I don't smoke, vicariously through you guys. With this being a new place, I suppose I'll have to re-review some of those favorites to reciprocate.

I'll smoke anything once. To me there are just so many options of cigars I rarely buy the same sticks twice - I have on a few occasions - but I do take note of the ones I like. Most of the excitement for me is being able to try new things, something I will be doing for a long time yet.

As a relatively new cigar smoker I'll try any cigar once, some I don't like and some I like well enough and will buy more.

I really enjoy the trading that exists in this hobby, it has opened me up to so much more variety as I develop my palate. As that happens I'm sure I will start to narrow down what brands or regions I prefer.

I suppose I'm not really picky, yet...

    Color me unpicky.

It's all relative though. I used to smoke Anthony and Cleopatra with my dad bcs that's all he would ever smoke. Now I can't stand the wretched things. OTOH, I always keep various 5 Vegas sticks on hand, along with an assortment of other cheapies.

I wouldn't say I am super picky, but I know what I like and avoid what I don't/won't like. I have the same problem with alcohol. Usually after the first sip I know if I like it or not and there is no forcing it down if it is a no go on my palate.

I agree with Jake. I also will try anything thing once and really enjoy the trading aspect of this sight along with the blind sampler offerings. That is the largest contributor to my introduction of previously untested brands.

Picky doesn't (necessarily) mean expensive to me. I like several mid-grade cc's because they are well made, tasty AND reliable (i.e., not worth counterfeiting like the high-end stogies). I've tried my share of nics and doms and have settled on a few I really like - the rest, I don't get it.

Exceptions: I had a few Fuente Chateaus (green ribbon tip?) and a couple of boxes of Drew Estate La Vieja Habanos (?) yardgars that sat around for 5-6 years. When rediscovered they had plumed beautifully and, for a bunch of (then) $5 sticks, they were some of the best tasting cigars I've ever had, period.

I used to try everything and like most of what I tried. But I have been slowly turning into a very picky snob lol. There are only a few that I want to smoke anymore. While I still appreciate a merely "good" cigar...I would much rather smoke a "great" cigar every time a light up. which can get rather expensive. But Moo brings up a great point...some of those sticks I no longer care for may turn out great after resting for a few years.
