Mold questions
I checked on my cigars today, haven't checked them for a week or so and found what appears to mold on about half the sticks that are not in cello. They are kept in a wineador that is kept at about 66. Use heartfelt beads to maintain humidity. Is it safe to wipe off the mold as it appears to be just surface or are they a lost cause? Should I wipe down the tray they were in with alcohol or something? I do not see any mold on the wood. Are the sticks that do not have any spots or mold ok?

IF the mold is just on the outside wrapper, general consensus is to just wipe it off. However, it looks as if the mold is on/IN the foot and it's usually best to toss those, imo.

The next question is "why". Do you have a hygrometer in there? What's the reading? Is condensation pooling up or dripping on your sticks? Something is definitely wrong.

I do have a hygrometer. Reads 65 right now. No condensation anywhere inside or on the door. I think my humidor was "contaminated" from a local B&M. Their walk in humidor is usually above 70, like 72 or 73, if their reading on the humidifier is correct, and I had one of the sticks I purchased from there awhile ago develop some mold. Haven't seen a repeat in quite awhile. That's why I ask if I should wipe the drawer down with something. I put the sticks without spots in a ziplock and back in the humidor and the spotty ones and the drawer are sitting out awaiting the verdict...

I would wipe to be safe. I wouldn't smoke those with the mold on the foot.
A couple questions as well. When was the last time you calibrated the hygrometer? Also, does your humidor sit in the sun? That can cause temp swings which can pump up the total moisture content when the temp rises then the medium has to soak it back up when the temp drops.

I trashed the ones with mold on the foot and will wipe down the drawer. Thanks. I haven't calibrated the hygrometer but I have a pound and a half of heart felt beads in there and it usually runs between 64 - 66.. the unit is in the basement so no sunlight issues... It was running low (around 60) for a while so I had put a sponge in a dish to recharge the beads. They looked mostly opaque. I think maybe there was too much moisture in the sponge and having had mold in it before that may have caused the mold...
