Just curious.
When it's said that cigars should not be exposed to light, is that sunlight or any light?!

I'm usually on Cigarbum at night, most, nights,most all night, most nights.
Best to play it safe, protect cigars from all light. Stick to use of lighters that emit no light.
Avoid shiny or reflective surfaces to avoid light from the burning end of the cigar being bounced back and potentially damaging the cigar as you smoke.
Moonlight can really b a problem since you're risking exposure to reflected Sunlight.
It sould not be need to be said.. But Sunlight is extremely damaging to Cigas as it is to Humans, even Cigarbums.

Even though @allusred response is more scientific and detailed then mine. I would think it is meant towards sunlight since it would cause the interior of whatever you are storing your cigars in to heat up.

I figure you should store cigars in 'a cool, dark place' same as Ball tells you in the canning guide. Sunlight deteriorates things. I would bet that artificial light does too although not as fast. So if you're going to store cigars in direct sunlight you should obviously spray them liberally with SPF 50, then they should be fine... might taste funny tho...

I think the remarks about sunlight seem pretty bright, so I would store my cigars out of sunlight for sure. Of course, if light was REALLY bad for cigars, Cohiba wouldn't have been packing their best in glass-topped boxes for so many years. Unless, of course, the glass is treated to filter out harmful wavelengths, which I estimate is just about as possible as acquiring a genuine Cohiba in a glass-topped box. Artificial light is probably somewhat harmful as well. I would think it depends on the spectrum and intensity of the light source, and I have absolutely no idea what would be best or worst.

I do know for sure that the last thing my cigars see before going up in smoke is a very bright light ...

Excellent point. I hadn't thought of that.

Being it's "Cohiba" the glass is probably something really special, like soda-lime float glass or something...

I always mean sunlight, the temp swings it can create aren't good. Also, the constant up and down temps can have your humidification always playing catchup. Or, if it's not 2 way humidification, you can over humidify the cigars.

Direct sunlight is bad for the temperature fluctuations it can bring, as well as the harmful UV rays. I don't know which is worse, but neither is good.

Hence why most beer bottles are dark green or brown.
