Fragile wrappers

Is it me, or are Connecticut wrappers the most fragile?

Almost every cigar with one i smoke cracks while cutting and/or while smoking, no matter how gently I handle them

Not a big deal 99% of the time, just something that I have noticed

Connecticut wrappers are most fragile.
When they are grown in the shade, the leaves grow thinner and lighter. I wonder if there is an optimum RH for connecticuts? It seems they are more prone to cracking if either too moist (expansion of cigar) or too dry.
Could be running in circles on this one.

I keep everything at 65%, so they should be good i would think as far as rh goes

Right up there with Cameroon. Mark nailed the biggest mistake/ misconception people make (self included) is that their cigar is too dry, so it cracked. But adding rH is sure way to guarantee a split as you smoke it.

Try dry boxing for a day or two next time and see if you experience improves.

Bottom line is its a fragile wrapper by nature, so you're behind the 8 ball to start.

Yeah, the look extremely thin, so I figured it was just the nature of the wrapper and nothing i could do about it

That’s a great idea of dryboxing, TJ.
Optimum storage RH and smoking RH may not be the same, nor the same for all cigar blends. I wonder if this might be part of the proposed lower RH suggested for habanos? They characteristically have the lighter, thinner wrappers.

Do we now need separate storage for Connies? Most cigar smokers don’t have a significant number of Connecticuts in their humidors.

We all have wrapper cracking issues. This is where the cigar band was. A very common cause of cracking when the band is removed.

I find Ecuadorian Connecticut wrappers to be a bit more resilient.

Interestingly, the Brick House Double Connecticut i smoked las night from the same tupperdor didn't get a Single crack.

I have a lot of trouble with Cameroon wrappers cracking, especially in the summertime. Some of them end up looking like exploding cigars from a Bugs Bunny cartoon. Of course, those are VERY thin wrappers, and fragile on a good day.
