First experience with tubos
So back in July, I got 10 AB Prensado Robustos and 10 AB Prensado Churchill Tubos. I took the caps off the tubos and let them sit open in the humi for a few weeks and then put the caps back on, but I left one out of the tube. Couple of weeks ago, I had some of the Robustos and the Churchill, that was taken out and all smoked great and tasted great.
Today I was looking forward to one, after a crap day because I needed to turn my day around. I grabbed one of the tubos pulled out the sticks, cut and light almost immediately tons of harshness, I figured I might have scorched it. An inch in and it gets worse, down to 2/3 and my throat is on fire like really bad acid reflux. Anyone else experience the tubos really slowing down the mellowing/resting of sticks?

I leave the cap off while in the humi. Just smoked a CAO Brazilia last night that I've had since March and it was fine
I don't have emotions, and sometimes that makes me very sad.

Hmmm never had that happen to me before. Have you tried any of the remaining tubos to see if the rest are in the same predicament?

I always keep the cap off on tubos when i am storing them. some people say they can still "breath" with the caps on while others say tubos can hold humidity for awhile when shut. i personally think tubos where made to hold humidity for a short period of travel and i dont think they breath as well as cello hence why i leave the caps off but that's just my my guess would be leaving the caps on extremely slowed down the aging process and depending what RH you store at they may start to be getting to dry

I haven't had any of the other ones yet. I think I may just end up pulling them all out of the tubes. I only had 10, would hate to waste another on another bad experience, if it does turn out to be the tubo not letting it breathe.

I store all my NC's at 65%. I am starting to think that I should just use the tubos for single carry when going out and not storage. I agree that the tubos may really slow down the resting of the sticks. Well, I think I have another experiment on my hands. I will take a couple out and check it in a month or 2 and try again and see how they compare.

I would think it will definitely effect the aging process with them closed. If you are looking at long-term aging (years) then I could see leaving the caps on. But I think you could also possibly have a greater chance of mold with the caps on. I take off the caps on mine. Better safe than sorry

i would say being stored at 65% they are probably starting to drop in rh being closed

Even if they dropped a bit, would that cause harshness? Not sure if RH would have anything to do with the harshness, it was more like mongrel on steroids with a bucket of battery acid..lol

i personally have never smoke a dry cigar but have read they can be very harsh. depending on how long they have been resting with the caps on they could be well below 60% which i would not smoke a cigar at. did they seem dry at all??

They did not seem dry or brittle at all. My experience is opposite. I used to store and smoke at 70%, then I tried 65% and a lot of harshness and acrid went away and my CC's are even lower at 62-63%. Even with the caps on, they were kept in my wineador which is 65%.
