Dry Nasal Exhale

Anyone else do this other than me? Like a retrohale, but without any smoke. I'll clear the smoke out first, and then I'll push nothing but air out of my nose right afterwards and I seem to be able to pick up certain flavors this way. I can pick up chocolate, sweetness, sometimes earthiness. Got a great cherry-chocolate from an Oliva G the other day.

Any of you guys ever try this out?

disclaimer: I am a noob at retrohaling the normal way. The more I do it the more the flavors will come, I'm sure. But as of now it's hit or miss depending on the cigar.

Hehe, all the retrohale does for me is measure how much spice there is.

I find the more smoke I retrohale the more spiciness I pick up, but if I barely retrohale any smoke I get more of teh dried fruit/leather type notes like the OP.

Could be that there are still small particles of the smoke being exhaled on your "dry exhale" that your olafactory receptors can then pick up on because they are not being overwhelmed by a large volume of smoke. I don't necessarily do the dry exhale, but I do sometimes retrohale in tiny micro-bursts interspaced with a few seconds between them. This is most often toward the end of the retrohale or just with a small portion of the smoke remaining from the draw.

Think about how after eating something with a very strong flavor or is spicy that your taste buds are muted for a while and need time to recover.

And Nature, that's probably it. Too much smoke retrohaling may just be too much at once to pick anything up for me.

I figgered everybody "nose" it's snotty. Generally, it's pepper/spice when I retrohale, but with this Undercrown I can taste a sweet woody undertone which I haven't noticed before...
