If it isn't right I will fix it before proceeding.
I check for draw before lighting, so if it is tight, I will go at it with a tool before lighting.
A loose draw does make a case for cutting conservatively and checking the draw before cutting further.
Sometimes I will fix a slightly tight draw by doing an additional "V" cut perpendicular to the first one.
