Cigars and bugs
Ok. So I know we are all spread out over the country and even other countries so I have a question to ask regarding and unusual phenomenon I've been experiencing the last couple years.
So from June to August here at my house in the middle of the Pacific NW there are these little flying bugs that look similar to a fruit fly but with larger wings. I don't ever see them day or night until I light up a cigar. Then they come out and swarm me like crazy. They stay until about 10 min after the smoke is gone and they disappear again. I never heard of an insect attracted to cigar smoke before and I thought it was a coincidence but I have been watching carefully over the last dozen or so smokes and its every time ( if the weather is good). They don't bite but are really annoying flying in my face and hair.
In my current smoking setup I sit with a large fan next to me in the garage that blows the smoke out of the garage. It blows onto my car and they congregate all over my car also.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar to this where you live.
Here is a pic of the hood of my car after just ten min of smoking. The pic doesn't show them well but I went from zero to hundreds in minutes. Wierd if you ask me.

Well that's alot better than I thought when I saw the title on this thread
Cigars are supposed to help keep the bugs away. That is really odd, but then again it is the PNW.
No such trouble here in the northeast
No cigar until you get a par - birdie if it's a scramble !

I had a similar problem last year during the summer but they were about the size of gnats. It was annoying as hell and I had to cover my drink inbetween sips. No idea what they were or why it happened.

Maybe they just like fine cigars. Fire up a Swisher Sweet or a Ron Mexico and see if that sends them packing.
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

I have some trouble with gnats when I smoke outside. They seem to be attracted to the smoke while mosquitoes are repelled by it.

I too live up in the PNW, but my climate may be more dry than yours. Especially in the summer.
Either way, I have not experienced this exact phenomenon. As already mentioned, cigars in general actually deter bugs. I make a bug killer/repellent for my plants out of dish soap and cigar ash. Works very well.
I have oddly enough noticed that paper wasps seem to be attracted to cigars though...Don't know what that is all about.

We get some mosquitoes oddly enough - I'm in the desert but during monsoon season they appear. There's also a week or so when there's an invasion of moths. Neither seems to care about tobacco smoke. The mosquitoes bite and the moths stupidly dive-bomb. Pretty annoying.

Well, I can say for sure I haven't seen any of these since I started smoking cigars ...
Insert witty comment here ...

I have hell keeping flies and gnats out of my snifter regardless if it's brandy or whiskey. I think the gnats taste better than the flies. It could be a mental thing because I don't know where the flies hands have been....
