Cigar Terms
Devil’s site, BOTL, ISOM, and other odd cigar terms
Throwing out a list of terms:
AF - Arturo Fuente Cigars
AB - Alec Bradley Cigars
LP - Liga Privada
DE - Drew Estates
Aging - The generally accepted rule of thumb is that anything 2 years or less is "rest"; beyond that is "age".
Devil's Site – usually refers to Cigarbid (Cbid) but loosely refers to any type of cigar auction format
BOTL or SOTL – Brother of the Leaf or Sister of the Leaf – fellow tobacco enthusiasts
ISOM – Island South of Miami – where magical Cuban cigars come from
RG – refers to either the diameter of the cigar as measured in 1/64th of an inch, so a 42 rg would be 42/64 of an inch. Can also refer to reputation points given to others on the forum when they consider your post worthy of rg.
rH – relative humidity – the amount of moisture in the air relative to it's volume
Boxed press – squarish/rectangle shape a cigar gets from being packed tightly in the box
Vitola – term used to express the size and shape of a cigar, examples: corona, robusto, Churchill
Figurado - refers to the shape of the cigar, typically having taper at both ends.
Perfecto - a traditional Cuban vitola, tapering equally at both ends.
PC – petite corona, a cigar viltola that is about 5 1/8 inches long with a 42 rg
Humidor (humi) – device for storing cigars and maintaining a relatively stable rH for cigars to remain smokable
SC – Spanish Cedar – neither Spanish nor cedar, the formal name is Cedrela odorata and is part of the mahogany family. Is used to control rH, repel cigar beetles and provide a pleasant aroma to cigars
Cigar Beetle – nasty little critter that will ruin a cigar collection faster than the IRS can take your money
Dog Rocket - a term given to the nastiest of cigars
CC - Cuban cigar
NC - Non Cuban cigar
B&M- Brick and mortar, your local shop
Plume- claimed to be a whiteish "powered" or "dust" that cigars get when the conditions are right in the humidor or the cigar is aging well....... JUST ALWAYS REMEMBER ITS NEVER PLUME
ROTT - Right Off The Truck - Cigar smoked very soon after being received from online merchant
Resting - Allowing a newly acquired cigar to acclimate to the rH in your humidor, complete the final fermentation and release associated undesirable gasses
Cab - cabinet
SLB - slide lid box
Tupperdor - A Tupperware(or other plastic) container used to store cigars. Usually with pieces of spanish cedar inside.
Coolidor - cooler used to store cigars. May have shelves and usually has pieces of spanish cedar inside.
Hygrometer (hygro) - instrument used to measure the moisture content in the atmosphere
Wineador- A wine cabinet, usually one that uses thermoelectric cooling, that has been repurposed as a humidor
Fridgeador- A refrigerator that has been repurposed as a humidor
HF Beads; also HFB - Heartfelt Beads are silica gel crystals that give off and take in humidity often called two-way media
KL- Fragrance Freee Silica Kitty Litter can also be used similar to HF beads as a two-way media in your humidor. Due to its cheap price KL is perfect for large humidors, fridgeadors and wineadors
Boveda- Another media for adding humidity to your humidor great for tupperdors and small humidors
DW-Distilled water, the only thing you should use to recharge your media
Silca Gel - A porous granular crystal form of silicon dioxide, very good at absorbing water. Used for humidification for cigars. When specific amounts of mineral salts are bound, can be used as a two-way system; both absorbing and evaporating to a specific set point.
Shilala Beads - HCM beads, created by Scott Shilala. A true, two-way humidification system, which also absorb ammonia gas.
OR - Original Release
LE - Limited Edition
RE - Regional Edition
Maduro - literally translated: mature; an elaborate method of fermentation, which results in the distinctive dark brown color, usually sweet, offering rich roasted/toasted notes, the darkest of which, "Oscuro", almost black, but lacking the characteristic sweetness of a lighter maduro.
Natural - a leaf which has not gone through any but the minimal fermentation process to convert sugars, having a light color, in contrast to maduro
Add to it please and I'll keep expanding the list

Ruler Of The Galaxy
rH - relative humidity - the amount of moisture (water vapor) in the air (or an isolated sample of air, like a humidor) at any given temperature compared against the maximum possible amount of moisture the air in question will hold at that same temperature. 50% rH means the air in question is holding exactly half the water that it could possibly hold were an infinite source of pure water available for evaporation. <- a not so simple explanation
