Every time this thread comes up in the New Posts list, the title, "If you had to choose ..." takes me back to the days when 3G cell service was brand new and rare. My wife and I were in Tennessee for a few days (and yes, I herfed with Shuckins, if you know who that is). Our trip started with a stay at her sister's house in Indiana (across the river from Cincinnati, and yes, I herfed with Habanos and Charlie, if you know who they are), followed by a drive through Kentucky, and then a few days with friends outside of Nashville. Cheapest flights and centrally-located airport was Louisville.
So, when we were leaving Nashville and heading to the airport in Louisville, we decided to take the state highways rather than the interstate, so we could see the countryside a little. As soon as we left the interstate, we lost cell signal and Google Maps crashed a while later, leaving us wandering generally northward with no real idea of what roads to take. We found ourselves in a nice little town called Red Boiling Springs (pronounced Red "Bowlin" Springs), and we saw a man working in the yard around a little Bed and Breakfast. We stopped and asked him the way to Louisville.
About that time, his wife stepped out on the porch of the inn, and he hollered over to her, "Lucille, if you was goin' to Louisville, how would you go?"
Lucille thought just a moment, and drawled slowly, dead seriously, "I'd take the bus."
I swear - that's just exactly how it happened. Thankfully, the owner of the inn got on his WiFi and found us directions, and we made it to Louisville. That's still one of my very favorite stories.
Gotta side with @Tombstone on this one. Love me some Roma Craft.
