Review: Zippo Conversion to Torch lighter with Vector Thunderbird

Up for review is a Vector Thunderbird torch lighter insert for Zippo style lighters.

Recently found out about these little gems from a Brother here on Puff. Ordered up two as a start, figuring if they worked well I might convert the rest of my Zippo's down the road.

Unpacking the insert, I am pleasantly surprised on the quality of the device. The online images as well as my own do not do it justice. It looks a little cheap, cheesy even. But the feel in hand is very nice and well balanced. The front and back are well shaped and the size is spot on with the two I put into different Zippo's.

The bottom of the device has a simple fill port as well as a simple dial to adjust flame height.
Both of the devices I received were already filled, and was slightly visible by turning unit at different upside down angles to see the liquid inside move.

First up for conversion is an old Jim Beam Zippo that has a nice hefty hand feel to it. With Pewter plate on it, it provides a nice texture in the hand and is one of my favorites.

Once existing core was removed the Vector Thunderbird slid in nice and snug. No visible front to back or side to side play.

Lighting the the torch took a single click and it was running smooth.

Second Zippo up for conversion is from one of my old military units. This Zippo has never seen actual use, and has been stored since early 90's.

Outcome on it was identical. Both worked perfectly, with no size issues or operational issues.

    Final results of Vector Thunderbird:

Price : $10-12 range depending on seller

This unit has quality construction, great fit and finish, and nice secure feel inside Zippo shell.
Would recommend this unit to anyone looking to convert a Zippo to a torch. I know I will be buying more for my remaining Zippo's

I love mine. As long as it isn't windy outside it's a fantastic lighter.
