    Wineador Drawers vs. Shelves

Just wanted to talk a bit about this for people who may be thinking of getting one in the future. I have a Whynter 28 bottle conversion that I received for Christmas from my wife. It is pretty nice, and though I don't use the cooling feature since my house is climate controlled, it holds humidity very well with about 10 boveda packs and just over 400 cigars. But there a couple of thinks to consider, especially if your buying custom drawers, namely how many drawers vs how many shelves.

My Whynter came with two large drawers and 4 shelves, I made some dividers to subdivide the drawers and that allows for better organization. I put my two drawers on top and that's where I pull cigars from to smoke. I had a ton of singles-5 packs-sampler packs-10 packs so I also have some cedar trays on 3 of the other shelves to hold additional unboxed cigars. and then a few boxes, bundles and so on. Here is a pic of that setup:

The drawers are pretty awesome and hold 80-100 toro sized cigars each, and I wish I had a third to optimize space usage. I have contacted the company to see if I can buy one as a part. The shelves are a little short for some cigar boxes, basically anything that stacks 4 or more cigars in a box is going to have trouble, and even if you do fit it vertically you can end up with wasted space horizontally. I am at the point where I am getting ready to buy more boxes and less 5 packs so I am hoping to go to the 3d drawer and the three drawers will hold what I am smoking, tail ends of boxes, etc, and then remove one or two of the bottom shelves to give me a sizable volume in which to play box tetris.

How do others utilize their wineador real estate?

It just depends on how you like to buy. When I ordered mine, I knew I would buy mostly boxes but planned on having singles as well.

I ended up with a NewAir with 4 shelves and 1 drawer. Right at 1 year later, I'm playing tetris with 30 boxes on 1 shelf. The few singles I have been gifted, are in a small desktop humidor.

I've found a 100 bottle EuroCave than I intend on purchasing that will give me much more space to expand... Can't let my girlfriend find out about that part though. I've convinced her that it will "look better" and will hide my cigar collection so she's on board.

Newair 281 with 5 drawers and 2 shelves made into half height trays - no boxes in this one
2nd Newair 281 in basement and not plugged in with 2 shelves for box storage
No cigar until you get a par - birdie if it's a scramble !

I have 5 drawers and one shelf. Until recently I avoided buying boxes so my stash was in need of drawers. I have many boxes now and have resorted to taking the cigars out of a couple and filling the drawers with them. I prefer the look of the wineader with all drawers in it anyway. I don't care if the cigars are in their boxes anyway. I do however save all my boxes for some future unknown projects.
