First shot at making an ash tray.

So, I am not a naturally talented artistic type of guy. However, was able to get my work to get me a free dremel and there is a wood shop within about 7 minutes that will sell cheap scraps of domestic and exotic woods. Decided to pair the two up and give making some ash trays and cigar rests ideas a try. Spent some time with a morning and afternoon cigar sitting on the back porch.
Still have to do a little shaping and smoothing, then find a good finish for the wood grain. Maybe after a few attempts I will get half assed decent and can give them out as gifts or sell them for a few bucks to go towards cigars.
Its rough.. Keep in mind literally all I had is a dremel and my hand to hold it. Need to get some kind of table and clamp to hold stuff. Would be fun to have a wood shop.
And in my darkest moment, fetal and weeping, the moon tells me a secret. My confidant.
As full and bright as I am, this light is not my own and a million light reflections pass over me.
Its source is bright and endless. She resuscitates the hopeless. Without her, we are lifeless satellites drifting.

with that I would try wiping some water on it just to see how the grain pops. If you like the look just go with a clear sealer if not a light stain should do the trick. Finish it with some poly I would recommenced a gloss at least where the cigar and ash will be. It will make cleaning easier
I don't have emotions, and sometimes that makes me very sad.
