Sauna as humidor?

I happened across a 4 person Sauna on Craigslist for a decent price and I've never seen one in person...I assume they seal well. Is that a correct assumption to make?

Obviously I wouldn't be using the heat, but a walk-in that is already moisture proof would be pretty cool.

Anyway....didn't know if anyone had one of these saunas that could provide some input?

I don't know! LOL

That is what I am trying to find out. Looks like this one I'm looking at is Infrared...so Perhaps not moisture tight.

I sent a bunch of questions to the poster on CL, but haven't heard back yet. We shall see!

I also have a message into a dude who is selling an antique two door freezer. OLD SCHOOL style! But, he has yet to write me back.

Parents in law have one and to my knowledge, it seals pretty well. (well enough for cigars I'd think)

My big concern is they are typically lined with regular Cedar, if it is, you would have to change all that out so it didn't affect your cigars. Now you have me thinking about an in home walk in humidor. You suck.

Check the style cedar used in the unit. Many saunas are made with red cedar often called closet cedar which is much more pungent than Spanish cedar.

You know I was in a sauna once with Al Roker and Ann Curry and we were discussing the same thing. Then Al turned to the conversation to the episode of Seinfeld he was in and the conversation really got derailed from there. I don't recall we ever came to a conclusion.

Wow, that's crazy! Either it was the slimmed down Roker, or a big sauna.

Saunas are built with western red cedar, or redwood not suitable for cigars.

You'll be better off with the freezer.
