    Low rh in wooden humidor

So, my small, 50ct wooden humidor is holding at 58% even with 2, 60gr 69% Bovedas and 20 cigars. It was reading the same rh with 65% Bovedas too.

Should I bother going up to a 72% Boveda, or just chalk it up as having too poor a seal and will end up replacing Bovedas frequently and switching back to tupperdors as much as I prefer the look of wood?

In the end, I'll do what's best for the cigars and ignore my preference for wood.

Depends. Is this a new humidor? It will take some time to saturate the wood with moisture. Have you done a flash light or paper test to check the seal?

If it's a new humidor, did you season it? Does it have a good seal when you drop the lid?

Its an old cheap Quality Imports 50ct I bought off Amazon and used until I learned about tupperdors. It was sitting unused for a couple years.

The wood was definitely well seasoned to the point the wood could hold no more moisture.

Just did the light test and didn't see the tiniest bit in a pitch black environment.

    It fails the paper test

If it fails the paper test, then I'm sure it fails the lid drop test. Sounds like a bad seal, try wiping the seal with a wet (not soaking though, just moist) sponge or towel and let it sit a couple of days and see if it's any better.

I suspect that would work temporarily, as when I first seasoned it, you could definitely feel it sealing when closing the lid.

How do they burn? Too much humidity is not good, don’t over react to smallfluxuations. Too much humidity hatches beetles in them cigars

They do smoke just fine, but the rh dropped very gradually, so the rh of the cigars may not have really changed yet. I'm just concerned with them getting too dry and cracking while handling or smoking.

You know, I didn't even consider it may be a bad hygrometer. If they burn right and taste good, don't worry too much.

The hygrometer was calibrated only a couple months ago, so it should be good to go.

Good point, if they are burning and tasting fine, I'm just being a bit of a worry wart.

Just got used to tupperdors and constant, exact rh in them.
