I always thought/heard to turn the lighter upside down.
Good to learn something new (to me at least).
Thx.
Best way is to place your lighter on a table ....with the exposed filler facing upwards....insert the nozzle of the can directly into that orifice and push. If you do it correctly you won't hear any hissing sound and your refill is correctly done and as I said....this will take practice to do it right. A lot of people can do this without having to use a table.,,,,,they just have a knack of doing this without overspray. Some lighters require a different size stem nozzle because not all nozzles fit well so under the cap of butane cans are different sized nozzles,,,,,,use the right one.

Another piece of advice is to refill for about 10 seconds....wait for 5 seconds and refill again for about 5 seconds to top off the amount because sometimes the chamber hasn't been filled to capacity and we need that chamber to be completely full so that there isn't any air left in there. Your lighter is going to be cold,,,,,,,so let it warm up to its surrounding temperature and then adjust the flame to 1/4 and try to relight.....if you get nothing then dial it up another 1/4 and so on until you get to 3/4 ......turning it all the way up usually doesn't work because then you are trying to pump too much fuel and that can overload the process where too much fuel is just going to produce negative action and expose a leaky tube or plumbing inside.

I'd love to see somebody hold their lighter sideways and then manipulate the can in the same way and see if it actually will work,,,,not saying it can't be done but watching it being done would be fun.
