Lighter filling issues
So, i have a Xikar 509BK Inpress single torch flame lighter, and a HONEY BADGER QUAD FLAME TORCH LIGHTER, and with Neon 11x and Colibri 1928 Premium butane, I'm unable to get either to fill with the can nozzle or any adapters that each comes with. Have also tried having the flame height adjustment to several different levels as i see that mentioned with a lot of lighters.
They have been completely purged of any butane or air, and the Honey Badger was brand new, and the Xikar was lightly used at most, so nearly brand new.
I was told by the vendor i got the Honey Badger from that she fills hers with the same Colibri butane with no adapter just fine.
Seems unlikely i got 2 defective lighters from different sources, so anyone have any suggestions or ideas?
I can fill my cheap Lotus Vertigo Cyclone triple flame torches and several others with either type of butane just fine.
I'm at a complete loss as to the problem and solution.
Thanks,
Sean

I empty mine the turn it upside down then attach the refill can. Many lighters can be finicky with different fuels and you didn't specify if it's not lighting after fueling or if it's not fueling. I have had lighters leak thru the jests after fueling that's a lighter problem. If it leaks out the fuel hole that could be clogged or dirty. Not sure how easy that would be to clean. If they have windows you should see how full they are granted a completely full won't have an air bubble yet. I think it is recommended not to shake refuel can before fueling.
After refilling the lighter adjustment needs to be lowered as you probably had to turn it up as fuel pressure drops as there is more space in fuel cell after using. Too much pressure can blow your flame out

Neither one is filling at all, nor are they leaking at the fill stem or the jets. I have listened very closely and hear no sound of butane moving at all, so the issue is that they are not filling vs not lighting after filling
For the life of me I can't figure out why i can't get them to fill, and why i don't hear or see any butane coming out of the can with or without any adapters and with 2 brands of butane, one being what the retailer said she uses on her identical quad jet.

Sometimes I have to "pump" the can into the lighter - rapidly repeat the press-in/release-of action between the can nozzle and lighter refill port.

@chain_gang
Just tried that with the quad jet, and it did get fuel in up to the point it began spraying everywhere as they do when full, and can hear the gas coming out of the jets when trying to light it, but now it wont light, and it runs out of fuel quickly, so its definitely still not filling properly plus now has a lighting issue.
Apparently this lighter just isnt going to cooperate with me no matter what so back in the drawer it goes.
Will try that method with the Xikar in a bit and see what happens.
Thanks for the tip. Will remember it for any future issues

As I pointed out if you hear it coming out the jets thats a lighter issue and I would call that one done

Yeah, I'm inclined to believe so. Sucks as it was a brand new lighter only used for the duration of the fuel that came in it.
Seems odd it would crap out so quickly.

You could try compressed air inthe jets or something before tossing. My guess is a bad seal or o ring

May want to wirebrush the sparker and area around it, then blow it out. I think I've had a similar issue when I was using an unknown branded gas and this worked.
Sounds like it is filling properly, but the fuel release valve to the jets is stuck open. May want to try constantly flicking the switch on/off to try to get the valve to cycle.
Lastly, I'd do a "drop check" - dropping the lighter on it's capped head with a bit of force (since it's light). It may help the repositioning of the mechanics in there that're tied to the valve. Since you were an I-Level guy, don't ask where this "check" originated.

Sounds like smacking the tv on the side in the old days when nothing else worked. Lol
