    Just curious what everyone uses.

I own a couple of Xicar lighters, but usually just use a BIC.

I don't own one but i have seen pipe lighters that are normally soft flames. I wonder if your secret Santa sees this thread?

Whatever is handy. Usually a regular old naptha Zippo. I've read and heard all the hysteria about the fuel taste ruining the tobacco and blah blah blah... it's all pure nonsense.

My preferred method is a wooden kitchen match but I seldom have one at my disposal.

My dad used to have (maybe still does idk) a pipe specific lighter with one of the long flint mechanisms on the side and the soft flame came out horizontally. It was very cool and luckily for both of us it was either out of flint or butane cause I would have stolen and lost it by now.

That flame thrower is safe and sound at Casa Carnahan and ready for our next in person Orgy!

If it is not windy, I prefer my American Thunderbird soft flame for my cigars. When it's windy, I have a beefy triple jet lighter that I picked up from a fellow Bum. Sometimes, I light it like I'm Mongo in Blazing Saddles and just stick my whole face in campfire....

I have total allegiance to the all mighty Vertigo Lotus. I've had a lot of torch lighters over the years...some more expensive than others. Nothing stands the test of time like these. It doesn't really make any sense. They're cheap. They're plastic. But they work. I've had the same ones for a couple years now. Some have gone through the washer...no problem. I have several backups. They'll also take pretty much any butane you buy. That's the other thing about expensive lighters...they want that fancy butane that's $20 a bottle or they won't work. Garbage. Long live the Vertigo!!

Same can be said for the Ronson Jetlite. Workhorse of a lighter and dirt cheap. As far as butate lighters, cheap is the way to go IMO.

ANY lighter is going to plug eventually. Inside any and all of them there's a little white rod of porous plastic that restricts the flow of butatne to the nozzle. You can see it thru the clear plastic in some lighters. That rod basically takes the place of an orifice. I have torn apart many lighters and it seems the same rod is in all of them. It is not replaceable that I know of. It just stands to reason that eventually that sucker is going to get plugged as even the most expensive butane you can find will contain at least SOME impurities. I for one, would rather throw away a $7 lighter than a $200 one.
