    Humidor interior veneer

We know that our el cheapo humidors from China can have fairly poor humidity control without some modifications. I decided to add some thicker planks of Spanish cedar to my humidor, and first removed the ledges that hold up the removable tray. You can see how thin the veneer is here (roughly 1/16"). I havent gotten around to putting in the new cedar yet.

I also removed the felt underneath and saw how poorly the bottom met the sides (a lot of nooks and crannies). I sealed the bottom with aquarium-grade silicone adhesive in hopes that might help the humidor further. I've kept painter's tape around the lips of the seal for some time, which improved the performance but it seems to have declined over time and is tempermental during the winter. At the moment I keep almost everything in weather- or airtight containers with no problems, but my temps are always around 72 F, and my old lady tolerates colder temps like an old lady. Good thing my soon-to-be wineador is on its way.

After I installed some new 1/4" Spanish cedar planks along the walls of the humi and re-seasoned using Herf N Turf's tutorial, the RH has been holding steady at 69-70% for the past 24 hours. Definitely a great way to upgrade a crappy humidor for fairly cheap!
