    How Much Humidification?

It's seems I've fallen headlong into this and a box just won't last as long as I thought. The Tupperware I'm using will likely hold about 30 sticks (a little room leftover after 25). The only ice chest I'd sacrifice is ~28 qts.

I've been using a Drymistat tube with Xikar 70% fluid, and CI sent me a free Humidification thing. Not sure what it is and I'm greatly enjoying my CAO and an oatmeal stout, but I'll check later. It's a little "pillow" I believe, but I'm guessing both would leave me lacking...

I'm guessing an ice chest (coolador?) isn't a great seal and may require a little extra?

I'm a bit confused as to what your question is? Are you asking how much humidification is required for a 28 qt. coolidor? Perhaps your just wondering what it is that CI sent you? (sounds like a boveda pack... they come is different rh levels and sizes)

Also, most coolidors have the best seals possible IMHO.

What number of oatmeal stouts are you on?

(After re-reading I think I have an answer to your question:

Mr. Simpson, don't you worry. I saw an episode of Matlock in a bar last night. The sound was down, but I think I got the gist of it.

Boveda will be the easiest thing. Go with a few extra from what the guide says at least until you get the cooler full.

For optimum humidification, I recommend at least 3 oatmeal stouts. Best to play it safe though and go with 4 (or 5).

1-2 of those are all i use (depends on the season) in my 28QT cooler.

no worries, no headaches, no rebuying Boveda packs.

28 quarts is 1600 cubic inches. One of those large heartfelt bead tubes should do it.

I was merely on stout #2, and the "pillow" I was sent is a 67% RH HumiCare I'm supposed to soak in distiller water for 20 secs.

I'm about to pop the top on #4 after dinner settles down. I didn't eat lunch and so that CAO put me down for a nap!

And my question was the amount of Humidification a 28 qt cooler would need. I wanted to mention what I had, but couldn't recall what the "pillow" was, which states it's good for up to 25 cigars. Would that be regardless of the container size? I'm guessing no...

Does reverse osmosis water count in regards to moistening it or does it need to be distilled?

Not sure about reverse osmosis. Always go distilled to be 100% sure. A cooler of cigars is a terrible thing to mold up. As for how much to use? While you can use too little, You can't really use too much of it is a reliable fixed RH product (Heartfelt, HCM, Boveda). I try to go double the recommended amount just to make it more worry free. I would lean towards HCM or Heartfelt just for the ease of re-charging and long term cost savings.

Having extra humidification means you return to your desired RH more quickly whenever you open the lid, or put in a lot of new cigars.

You are correct... that is a big no. Just imagine the difference between putting 25 cigars in a cabinet humidor versus a small desktop humidor. The size of the humidor dictates the kind of humidification you will need.
