Just finished my humidor project using a wood crate for cannon ammo

Just finished my latest large custom cigar humidor build using a vintage US Military surplus wood crate that originally held 105mm rounds for M395 Howitzer cannons.

Lined with 1/4" solid Spanish Cedar, has two removable top trays, cherry stained, cedar Boveda pack holder and Xikar Digital hygrometer.

Purchased this box from a Army/Navy surplus (along with a few others) a couple of years ago and have been meaning to play with it. Finally got around to building one for a customer! Turned out great. Love the history of boxes like this.

MORE PICS HERE. Let me know what you guys think!

    Amazing work as always!

What's the estimated capacity? Also, how's the seal?

It's around 27" long x 9" tall x 11" deep inside. I estimate it will hold 500-1000 sticks. With the removable trays you have options as far as filling it - heck you can even fit full boxes.

Seal works pretty much like a traditional wooden humidor. I've got that piece that lines the inside of the top lid fitted so that it lowers down and creates and joint with the bottom section when the lid closes. Plus the latch really pulls the lid down tight. Not 100% air tight like the metal containers I usually work with (that have a cool rubber gasket) but as good as a normal wooden humidor.

That's what I figured from the pictures! I imagine it will work wonderfully, especially with the latch. Once again wonderful craftsmanship!

    Very nice!
I don't have emotions, and sometimes that makes me very sad.
