    Colibi Lighter Question

I have a really cool Colibri lighter given to me by a now-deceased friend.

It's got a built-in cutter, and I have a mild sentimental attachment to it.

The innards that contain the fluid have a small hose that's no longer sound, and it needs repair or replacement of the guts.

    My question is:

    Is it fixable at all?

Colibri parts that I find are the common items for the common lighters, and from what I know, this one isn't.

Am I best to make it desk-art?

If it were me, I'd contact Colibri. (assuming you haven't already tried that) Maybe you could send it in for a refurb.

The little hose isn't a problem to replace - you could get a piece of small engine fuel line from NAPA. Failing that, McMaster Carr has all kinds and sizes of tubing. However, any proprietary components could present a problem.

    Good luck

I can see why you want to refurb this, Rusty. That is a unique lighter with the scissors cutter, not to mention the more important sentimental value.
I wish you the best in finding a solution. I attempted to replace the internal hose on a triple flame lighter and it was a delicate operation.

As with what has been said.....if it's just the hose that's an easy fix as I have over 25 lighters myself and do my own maintenance . If it has other issues there are places what will fix it for you...just got to call around and let know the specifics as to any info you can find on the lighter itself. Worse case scenario....memories are worth more than the item most times.

    Well. Bummer.....

I emailed their customer service and got back this response:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was produced by the original Colibri who has since gone out of business and we do not have any of their parts to offer repair services.

    Thank you,

Well that's too bad. Apparently the current Colibri is Colibri in name only. Someone probably bought the name and is selling knock-off, Chinese junk at ridiculous markup because they can paste "Colibri" on it.

Well, if it was me and if I was determined to get it working again, what I would do is watch ebay for a working unit and when I found one, swap the working guts with your shell. Might be sort of hard to find a working one tho if it's old and somewhat rare.

Only way to try over is taking it to a local professional skilled repair person who could fix it with his own idea or could definitely suggest an alternative adjustment.
