    Butane brands

Which brand of butane do you like best ? I had been using Neon I believe is brand has flames on the can and 5x on it but local shop was out so I had to get Colbri . Not sure why but my cigars seem to not taste right . Just off . I finally used a cheapy C store light and I noticed they tasted much better . Is it maybe Colbri brand is hotter ? Don't think am scrotching the cigars but is definitely something off either from the butane or me doing something somehow . Tried a different lighter I refilled also with Colbri and got same off taste .

If you're tasting a difference between butane brands, you need to stop huffing the butane and refill your ligther with it instead.

In all seriousness, there shouldn't be any difference between butane brands on taste, you're most likely a victim of confirmation bias. As long as your ligther is getting the right mixture of fuel and oxygen (mostly blue flame), all the trace chemicals that might not have been filtraded would be incinerated before they would even touch the cigar. The difference the extra filtrations does is in the lighter function degradation, like clogged jets overtime.

I use Xikar butane, mainly. I've used various, cheaper, and "tobacco shop" brands when traveling. One negative thing I've noticed with some of these, is they do seem to degrade the lighter. I do believe there's been a time or two where I've asked myself the same question you pose here - is this cheap butane giving me a bad experience, or did I F-up my cigar - and, honestly, cannot say which it was with certainty.

I'd say: if you're noticing something different, and the only thing you've changed is your butane brand, then it's time to change back or go to another brand.

Xikar High Altitude - greatly reduced jet fouling. Honestly, before finding this brand/mix, I just accepted fouling as part of the experience.

I've used Colibri for years with no problems or tastes but if you notice a difference then switch it up
No cigar until you get a par - birdie if it's a scramble !

I have to try this. Some of my lighters object to proper ignition when I'm up in the mountains.
