Boveda Butler

Anyone have any experience, insight, reviews, etc of the Boveda Butler?

Tried a search and only got 1 hit with a couple brief mentions of them.

Was just given one and know nothing about them so thought I'd learn while I wait for the batteries to arrive

Bummer. The couple brief mentions of them i found here weren't overly favorable for the most part either.

I assume that's why the discontinued them...

Was hoping it was a quality device being from Boveda, and its tiny, so takes up no space in a tupperdor at all

Got the Butter as a tag along item with a cigar bomb, so was curious about it,

They all have their pros and cons Sean.

As you may have guessed, I'm one that loves to play with gizmos like these.

It's been an evolution. Late 90s-early 2000s we had the Radio Shack digital units that we learned to adjust even though RS didn't want us to. These were great at the time, but you had to be line of sight to see temp/humidity.

Oregon Scientific came out with their sensors that communicated with a digital hub so we could watch 3 sensors from a single display. Also good at the time.

Boveda Butlers were my first foray into wireless sensors using a phone/tablet app. I sent you one, but kept the other 7 because they fill a niche. For me that niche is to drop a unit in a Lucite jar for peace of mind. I may put some of these in Sistema boxes down the road. I don't even bother setting up alerts on these. I just open the app to see what's happening every when I remember to do so. Butler battery life is pretty awful/short, alerts only work when the app is open on your phone, and you don't have the ability to tweak calibration. The calibration process is limited to 75% using their calibration bag that I also sent along with the Butler.

Meross was my next stop. The products had promise. It fixed the calibration limits of Boveda, had better battery life, an OK phone app, Wi-Fi connectivity and AUTOMATION. The sensors could trigger other devices (smart plugs) to do stuff when alert thresholds were met. For me when humidity became stratified top to bottom, I set up the sensor to turn fans on. After the humidity was no longer stratified, the same sensor would send the instruction to turn off the fans. Also, this was the first Wi-Fi capable system that no longer required that you were in Blutooth range. You could monitor from anywhere.

Now we have Govee. It has all the same features of Meross, but a better app and battery life in all units I've used so far. I've used both Wi-Fi and Blutooth sensors. The only thing lacking right now is the Automation features of the Meross products. Currently there isn't a way to have sensors trigger the Govee smart plugs. When I see a humidity alert caused by stratification, I have to manually turn on the fans from my phone and let them run for a scheduled 30 minute cycle. Still pretty cool, but not where Govee should be with automation.

I certainly still plan on using it when my batteries arrive, after I have checked it with the calibration kit and just making a note if it's off bit, and using it in my Sistema that I put all your cigars in just for peace of mind.

I like playing with new gadgets too, plus many cigars you sent are discontinued and irreplaceable, and the Butler is nice and small, so want to use it in there, even though I have a Boveda 320gr in there and only 50 cigars, so really dont have to worry, but would be nice to use in there anyway.
