The local bar is the main hub in my town, well a handful of people are cigar smokers there, and my friend Danny suggested a cigar social once a month in the good weather months. We plan on doing one this Saturday, he came up with a cigar pass idea and talked to the owner about whiskey specials. Probably get about a dozen or so people to show up for the first one.

Neither him or I have ever tried to host anything like this before. We have a decent patio out front, weather looks nice, small cult following. Is there something small I could do to make this a more fun activity? Maybe like a short trivia for a sampler out of my humidor or something? Or should I just let it ride and see what happens?

Sounds like a Kick Ass idea! Chilling with fellow cigar smokers and shooting the shit always turns out well. Personally I’d hold off on any prizes or whatever till ya get a feel for how things turn out. If all goes well then heck yeah, on the next get together try mixing it up a bit!

I agree with Joe. Let the 1st one ride out and see where it goes. Get a feel for the crowd.

While I also agree it makes sense to wait and see, if by chance no "next time" ever materializes, you may end up saying, "Gee, if only I had done that contest or raffle. We might have kept this thing going!" And of the two, I'd lean toward a free raffle. Easier to do and everybody likes 'em.

Plus, it'll give you a chance to be the focus for a short time, and take care of business, ie; thank all attendees and the host, and make it known this would be nice as a regular thing. Plus, you can ask for input on a group name. Gotta have a name!

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Sounds like fun Kyle. Personally I'd give away a fiver or a couple of 3 packs out of my own stash, just drawn from a hat or something.
But I've recently been told that I have a reputation that precedes me so I may not be the best one to answer this question.
Hope it goes well and it's something you can carry on. Smoking with a good group is great.

Great idea! Maybe "Cigar Movie" trivia and hand out a stick or two. Let us know how it turns out!!

Sounds like a lot of fun. I agree with doing a raffle or two. Maybe a draw from a deck of cards with the highest and lowest cards win. 5'er for highest and a 3 pack for lowest. Draw an 8 and get a free drink of choice?

Appreciate the input, we put an event out on Facebook and had 12 hits from people I have never even met before so I'm excited about that. Realistically we were planning on about half a dozen, but looking like more which is always great.

I think holding off on trivia is a good idea, maybe wait for a later date on that. I like trivia and I know some of these other guys do, but probably would take away the focus on the first get together. I like the free raffle idea and think I'll probably run with that. It's quick, can say a few words thanking Danny and the owner, adds a little excitement without taking away from just enjoying cigars.

Awesome. Sounds like you are off to a promising start. Wish I could attend! Good luck and let us know the outcome.

Ok so we just got done, had about 8 other people show up, didn't do a raffle i brought cigars for it just in case I thought it seemed right but ended up handing a few out to people I knew who just happened to stop in l. It was a great time and we found out there was a little local cigar group

Nice - you going to be able to get together year round or just in the warm weather ?

Good to hear that you at least got something going. I would love to have a monthly gathering here in the Tulsa area, but I probably couldn't get five people for a free fish fry.
