Glad I bought all the cigars I'm ever going to smoke....knew this day was coming and more taxes on the way. This is just a green light to exploit the industry....they called it a sin tax years ago and the Devil is bringin it home.

If it's just sales tax, not a problem. I'll still happily pay that for ordering online. If it is the NYS cigar tax as well, guess I am making more trips to the reservation smoke shops. I hear there is still a pretty good one down near some golfing bum.

Gee, they voted to condone a moneygrab. What a surprise.

As an aside, or maybe it's not, I have never been able to purchase cigars at a b&m in NC and receive at itemized sales receipt. If anything, it's always just a slip of register tape with the total price , period. So I have no idea what the sales tax break down is. Do others find themselves in the same situation? Thanks.

It appears that I'll have to start ordering from overseas exclusively...The US Supreme Court has no jurisdiction over those orders...

It's sad that I can order many of the ones I love most from an overseas vendor and have it cost less than even most domestic websites, after a discount. It only works for the larger producers like Fuente, Liga Privada, etc. Not that I order often, but it says something about how much they are already taxed before getting to the "cheap" domestic options.

Same here at our B&M in Knoxville. I would like to get an itemized receipt but just get the little one with the total.

Via Half Wheel, here's a thoughtful editorial on the internet tax ruling. And also answers whether OTP taxes are to be included. Spoiler alert: the answer is, "No".
