Now that we're getting settled in, we went about a little housekeeping to make the Pipe Forums better suited to our needs. We've...
Consolidated the Pipes Review forum and the Pipe Tobacco Review forum to make it a one-stop-shop
Added a DIY section for everyone who grows, tops, presses, builds, carves, or creates their own tobacco or accouterments.
Added a Newb Q&A subforum to the Introduction forum as a central location for all "new to the sport" questions (thanks to Mister Moo for this suggestion)
And expanded the Pipe bomb section to include contests and passes.
I have moved some threads around to situate them in more appropriate locations, but I left redirects that won't expire for three days. That should give everyone time to explore and reorient.
Enjoy!

This is quickly shaping up to be a great forum. Hell, it already is and it's steady getting better. You guys are awesome and are very much appreciated.
Most of us are like me who just come on and enjoy the place without thinking about the work and time it takes to make it happen. I can't believe how much has happened in such a short time. I'm glad I came on just a few days after it started. In a few years I can say, "Back when we first started and there was only a hundred or so of us.........." lol

I would like to see myself auto-subscribed to any thread I post to. Right now, I have only one subscription, that I had to pull down the menu, select subscribe, then say that I did indeed want to subscribe. PITA.
Then there's the matter of unstoppable emails. I don't want to get an email every time somebody likes or thanks me for a post. This is really annoying and I can find no way to stop it from my settings.
I also want the ancient pedant emoticon! http://www.classicalguitardelcamp.com/images/smilies/icon_sage.gif They wouldn't give it to me at puff.
Doing great though, Tobias! (I'd give you RG if I had any. :) )

To do this go to Settings-->general settings-->Default thread subscription mode and select anything other than do not subscribe based on your emailing preferences.

I'm guessing here but I think this may be what's triggering these emails: go to Settings-->general settings-->receive email and uncheck the box for receive email from other members...

Can't help with this one :pipe:

edit: @JollyRogers (http://www.cigarbum.com/forum/member.php?u=168) beat me to it!

This can be fixed through your Settings panel. On the top menu go to "Settings", then on the left hand under My Settings panel select "General Settings", then find Default Thread Subscription Mode, on the drop down menu, select "Through My control Panel Only", then "Save Changes" at the bottom.
Then there's the matter of unstoppable emails. I don't want to get an email every time somebody likes or thanks me for a post. This is really annoying and I can find no way to stop it from my settings.
Go to same menu as described above in General Settings: deselect Receive Email from Administrator, Save changes. Somehow, I did this then re-selected this box later, and I still no longer get emails of Likes or Thanks. Give it a try or just leave the email switch off.

I think the "Through your control panel only" kinda threw me, since that seemed synonymous with "Do not subscribe", implying that I would have to subscirbe through my control panel either way.
Of COURSE the alerts are from the Administrators! doh.
Thanks to you both for the assistance! I guess nobody likes the opinionated old geezer, huh? sigh. It seems so apropos for so many of us here. sigh. gasp. wheeze, choke.

I always sign up for a forum with a catch-all email that I never check. Makes it easy to insulate myself from spam.

I am all for more emoticons. The soap-box one and the guy peeking from behind the couch were also useful.

Definitely! I was also fond of the 805 and 806 If management is afraid of a copyright violation for stealing an emoticon, fear not. I've seen the old guy on at least half a dozen forums here and there, not all them pipe forums.
All you have to do is right click on a gif you like that is showing in your browser, "Save as" into your computer's emoticon directory give it an index name with the website software and it should just show up when the smilies subroutines display the set of gifs in the directory. I hate to be a whiner, but it wouldn't take more than an hour or so to create a dynamite set of emoticons.
I have almost stopped using smilies here. 803
Hmm...that seemed to work. Maybe I'll make my own set! 804 Nah. Major PITA.
These gifs are in my attachment folder if the powers that be are interested.
And the Ennerdale warning emoticon seems needed merely as a safety feature. 808
