Where in the world is all of the Sam Gawith?
Full Virginia Flake was my favorite Virginia before I discovered the awesomeness that was McClelland. Well, since they decided to retire, I thought I'd just hop online and order some of my old favorite. No one has any!
I don't remember ever having trouble getting it before. Hopefully this is just a temporary issue.

I've been trying to get a couple tins of it for cellaring for a while now too and no one ever has it in stock when looking.

It's hit and miss for sure. I've been looking for Happy Bogie forever. It's seldom in stock anywhere but this at least is nothing new. Maybe availability coincides with the growing season somehow. Hope that's all it is. Also, with McC going belly up, it's going to put more demand on the other producers. Glad I have a crapload of tobacco on hand :pipe: Still, I only have about half lb of Happy Bogie... it's probably all I really 'need' but you know how it goes...

I found some FVF on a European site. It's available, but the exchange rate puts it at about $24 a tin. That's too rich for my blood. I'll wait

You just need to stop being so picky. I just bought a box of Navy flake and a box of Kendall cream flake. Also bought 500g of Louisiana flake but part of that is back ordered.

As I understand it from a few other boards this is nothing new with them. They sporadically put out inventory and the more popular ones always sell out before the next batch hits here in the U.S. I imagine that may only get worse without McClelland around.

Yeah, I did see some Navy Flake. Smokingpipes I believe.
Good stuff for sure.

Stop looking for it, and it will pop back up right after you've spent your funds on something else!

I have several tins of FVF on hand. All 5 - 10 years old. I don’t smoke much of it nowadays — too hard to keep lit.
You might look for Wessex Dark Flake — a near clone of FVF.
More generally, I’m seeing a lot of my fave tobaccos “Currently Out of Stock” on SmokingPipes.

Samuel Gawith (SG) and Gawith, Hoggarth, & CO (GH&C) blends periodically suffer from droughts. Usually it's their more popular blends, but occasionally even their more obscure blends get hard to find. I keep looking for SG Grousemoor and Sam's Flake, but I haven't found any in some time. Right now it looks like GH&C blends are pretty stable though - assuming you like the floral Kendal sauce.

It’s appalling how many of my favorite tobaccos are “Currently out of stock” at SmokingPipes.

Burning a bowl of G&H Louisiana Flake with a glass of delicious chardonnay in tow.
Very nice combination indeed...

I know what you mean. I'm trying to pick up some good Virginias so I don't have to open my McClelland tins right now.
No FVF. No Essex Dark Flake. I've looked for the F&T blends I've seen you, and others, speak highly of.
I swore that when FVF and St. James Flake come back in stock, I'm going to pick up 2 or 3 of the 250g boxes so I'm not caught this low again.
I may have to crack open a tin of McClelland 40th Anniversary while I'm waiting it out.
Have you had the Capstan Blue? It's in stock. I thought about grabbing a couple tins of that.
First world problems. Uggggghhhhhhh.

You know PS Navy Flake and Newminster 400 Navy Flake are hardly something to turn your nose up at once they've got a year or more age on them. Plus they're almost always available and cheap enough to stockpile.

Sutliff Virginia Flake is a solid choice with cellaring too.

Cool Breeze, I think you mean Wessex Dark Flake rather than Essex Dark Flake.
I have a fair amount of Capstan Blue on hand, and it’s pretty good. But I like two F&T Virginia flakes better: Vintage, and Cut Virginia Plug. Smoking the Vintage right now. Personal preference, of course.

Yes, I meant Wessex.
I did stumble upon some good baccy today though.
Was at my local B&M and found out they had a few oz of MClelland 2015 Virginia/perique flake left. So I got 4 oz of that. 2.5 oz went into a small Ball jar, and 1.5 oz will be enjoyed, starting right now.
I will definitely put Newminster 400 and Sutliff VA flake on my short list.
Thanks guys.
