Nica Libre used to be one of my favorite budget smokes. I purchased a couple boxes about three years ago and slowly smoked through them. They were always nice and spicy and had a chocolate/coffee flavor to them. However, the ones I've purchased more recently from CBid have been mild to the point of being a budget connie and had no spice to them. I know that tobacco is a plant and not every crop is going to be the same, but this has been night and day. The 15 or so that I have now are almost unsmokable, even with about 8 months of rest. Has anyone else noticed their decline? Honestrly, I wonder if they were bought out by one of the big companies and changed blends.

On a related note, can anyone suggest a replacement? I'm looking for a budget maduro that has a nice kick on the retrohale. Currently, Diesel Unlimited Maduro has been my go-to, and they've been a good replacement. ACME San Andres is also a fave, but I can only get them for cheap about once a year on CigarPage. Still looking for others.

Check out the obsidian black label or Ramon Bueso Genesis the Project.

I as well enjoy Nica Libre. I haven't purchased any since the label changed, still have a dwindling amount left, so I haven't had any recently.

Diesel Unholy Cocktail, Alec Bradley Maxx, and Nub Maduro are my staple maduros - all can be had for $3 and under if you're patient on cigarbid. These have always been in my humidor and always will be in my humidor. Love them!!

If you go up a couple bucks in price per stick, La Historia is just phenomenal and smokes way about the price point. You can get for $5 on cigarbid most times. So good.

My go to is the Diesel as well but I must say the Last Call maduro I had recently was a close second to that. Those are a bit more expensive than the Diesel though.

Definitely checkout the Diesel offerings. The Ramon buesos are also very good suggestions although they need quite a nap before they truly shine.

And if you’ve not tried them yet the illusion Rothchilds can always be found at around $3 to $3.50 a stick and come in 50ct cabs....ps these always perform way above the price point at least for me :thumb:

I'm a big fan of the Bueso Project. Hell of a bang for the buck, especially with some time on them. Fortunately, I have enough of them to sit for a spell....
