Like the click-bait title? :)

OK, maybe I'm crazy but it's happened twice in the past couple months including today on the way home from work. A guy lays on the horn while passing me and glares. Normally when I get honked at, which is rare, I know why. But these times, I was just driving, nothing out of the ordinary, not texting or otherwise distracted, etc.

The only thing I can think of is, both times I was smoking a cigar. Is it possible that two different people who are not favorably disposed to tobacco smoke were dramatically expressing their disapproval? Has this ever happened to any of you? I hope I'm not experiencing the beginning of a new trend!

The other remote possibility is the external markings on my truck. It's got a Michigan upper peninsula outline in the window - nothing objectionable about that. There's a police support blue line, again, that shouldn't be too much of a trigger. I've got a marathon-style sticker that says 7.62, but only a gun aficionado would know what that means, and probably wouldn't object. & I have a Univ of Mich theme license plate which might attract negative emotions in certain parts of Michigan, but not here in the DC suburbs.

So I'm thinking they objected to my taste in cigars :)

That's kinda funny. Similar thing happened to me last week. In an ambulance, no less. we're sitting at a red light (non-emergency) when an old guy in front of us got out of his car and started shaking his finger at us. Windows were up so I couldn't hear what he was saying. Did this for a minute, then got back into his car and took off when the light changed. Again, non-emergency response (moving the unit to cover another station), not tailgating, not close to him. Only thing we could think of was my partner (driving) was looking at his phone. But, we were stopped. So, no idea what ticked him off.

When you get "people" figured out, please send out a memo to the rest of us. I'm getting tired of hiding out in the house with the guns loaded....

Probably just got a snoot full of Brohiba smoke right thru his heating vents - drive on

Talk about click bait... I really thought this was going to be a good story about the bureaucrat day camp / tedium chamber / goat rodeo / red tape dispensary

Never happened while driving, but I did have an older woman drive a 1/4 mile down an empty parking lot to tell me that smoking in disgusting. She then continued to tell me that she could smell me from miles away. I just smiled and said it was probably her moth ball perfume. Never seen the bird come up so quick. LOL! People make life interesting!

Ciro, your story just reminded me, back in the 90's, I was out with a friend one night listening to a local band in Stamford, CT when a young lady complained to him his cigar was bothering her and he should put it out. To which he replied, "I would, except do you realize we are in a cigar bar?". True story.

Tell you what. I'll sell you this half smoked cigar for 5 dollars and you may then do what you like with it.

Then produce and light another one...

Folks don't make much angry eye-contact with me on the road. I ride with a large black 12ga in a rack in the rear window.

The last time I had someone do that was on a back road near my house in the middle of the day. Just pulled up along side me laying on the horn and screaming. No idea why. Was not smoking, was not driving slow.

They may have had a full bottle of gatorade bounce off their passenger window for their trouble. They decided at that point that speeding off was a better idea than continuing to be an idiot.

Years ago, before I was into pipes and cigars I was behind a guy and every mile or so I could smell this amazing smell. Noticed a puff of pipe smoke coming out his window just as the smell hit my car. He started acting like that too, might have been because I kept following him until he was home...

I had to laugh when I read your mitten comment. I worked briefly with a guy from Lansing and anytime he needed to describe where a city was, he'd use his hand and point.

It's been 30 plus years since I've been in DC, but it seems to me that everybody honked their horns all the time. If I remember correctly, the streets were like wagon wheels that spread out from a center circle. I think it took me three days to get the hell out of there with people honking all the time. It was a culture shock to me being from Tulsa Oklahoma as everything is laid out in mile grids here like it should be. No wonder shit doesn't get done there as everybody is driving in circles.....

DC itself is horrible for driving & I'll avoid it whenever possible. If I have to go into the city, I usually try to park in the outskirts and take the metro (subway). & in the suburban areas, the driving is the worst I've seen anywhere, and that includes some 3rd world countries I've driven in, including Italy :)

Don't get me started! Oops, too late...

It was a nightmare driving there! The funny thing was that I was stuck at a light and I looked over at the sidewalk and the Senator from Oklahoma (David Boren) at the time was standing there on the corner. I had a couple of drinks earlier and yelled out the window that I knew him. His security jumped in front of him freaking out. I told them to look at my licence plate as I was from Oklahoma and I thought it was cool that I ran into him in DC. I couldn't wait to get out of that city as it's a little busy for me.....
