Newbie Sampler Trade for Pipes

Hello everyone, glad to finally get this back up & running. Below are the rules.

The Newbie Sampler trade is a place where a New Pipe Smoker (NPS) can trade with an Experienced Pipe Smoker (EPS).

The EPS will send sampler of tobaccos to the NPS for a tin of one blend of premium tobacco.

This objective is to allow an NPS to try many different blends and types of tobacco to help them understand what they like.

The EPS will get a 2oz. tin of tobacco in exchange for 5 samples of about 4 bowls worth each.
The EPS will pick the samples of tobacco that the new smoker might enjoy. However the EPS should not send 5 samples of the same tobacco like 5 samples of Balkans or straight Virginias, rather the EPS should send a good variety.

If you’d like to set-up a “double batch” sampler, go for it.

Process:
- Post in the thread to indicate if you are an NPS or an EPS
- First NPS will PM the first EPS to exchange address information. And the EPS will request which tin of tobacco he wants.
- The NPS will send his end first and post in the thread when it is on its way.
- The EPS will then send his end and post when it is on its way.
- Then each will post when their package is received.


NPS: The NPS is someone who has limited smoking and tobacco experience and knowledge, and someone who has less than 6-8 months of pipe smoking experience.

EPS: The EPS is someone who has been pipe smoking for at least 6 months and has good knowledge in Tobacco blends and types. The EPS should also have enough open tobacco to send out a good variety of samples.

Hey Dan, since we already talked about it in person, I'll go ahead & post here.

Not that I'm a huge stickler for the rules (I like bending them if it helps members out), but we both agreed that a little more time & a little more variety of tobacco types is in order. I say give it a couple months & once you graduate to "eats 1792 for breakfast" status, it's EPS time. :pipe:

Holy crap I got absolutely demolished by El Whedo !!! Mark went so far above and beyond to setup a NOOB with some great samples of tobacco to try! I haven't even heard of most of these, much less tried them. All I know is when I opened the box it smelled delicious!! On top of the very generous selection of pipe tobacco, Mark included pipe cleaners, four cigars, a lighter, a small bottle of Seagrams and a Santa Fe Brewing Koozie! I don't know how Mark knew that I'm a huge fan of Koozies, so much so that I carry one most places, but that was the cherry on top of an amazing bomb. Thank you so much Mark for going out of your way to deliver way more than a NOOB could have hoped for!

I'm back. Got home this afternoon. I'll try to get a package out to you tomorrow, or Thursday at the latest. Gawd, it was so nice up there, I didn't want to come back at all.

So I get home from my mini vacation this afternoon. I unpack the SUV, clean out the cooler and get a load of laundry started, then sit down and load a cob with some Carter Hall. A small package had been delivered while I was away and I thought "that must be the tin of H&H Armada from Alligator Gar". So I open the box, and sure enough, that's what it was, but it wasn't alone. Also in the box was a tin of H&H Beverwyck. Now the deal is for a single tin of tobacco, not two. This is clearly a violation of the rules, and when you break the rules, you have to expect to pay the price. This could get ugly.

When I received notification the package had arrived I decided to leave Gar Manor and venture into town, something I'm loathe to do on a Saturday. I snatched the box, jumped in the hot rod, locked the doors, pulled the shades and opened her up.

Since everything is clearly labeled I won't post a wall of text. There are at least ten in here I've read about and wanted to try. The portions? Insanely generous. These are handfuls of tobacco, not "samples."

Here's where it goes off the rails. Included is a sweet MM Mizzou and a monster Great Dane Spindle Turn. And what's this? The very pipe and tobacco pouch I was fixing to order this morning. Hey, there's stuff inside it! Pipe bits (which I absolutely use being a clencher), humidity buttons, Czech tool and folding pipe stand. And the pipe pocket? Well, it's got a Dr. G Lark in it! And it has beautiful whorls, swirls and burls in it. Did I mention the Pipesmoking book and two kinds of cleaners?

Warren sent a real nice hand written note with lots of helpful advice and warm sentiments. He said in a PM it doesn't make sense to send part of what a fellow needs. Well, he sent everything I needed and then some! Much respect for the pipe vets on here. Thank you so much; if you'll excuse me I have some smoking to do!

It's great stuff. There's 09 Esoterica Stonehaven in there! I tried the Russ Ouelette's Fire Storm today and was blown away. Transitions like a good cigar, starts sweet and creamy and then gets spicy midway. Outstanding.

Received a package from Atomix, and in that package there were 2, not the one called for in the rules, but 2 tins of Mac Baren HH Acadian Perique, plus a 3/4 oz. sample of Mac Baren Modern Virginia. Apparently warnings are not enough. An example must be set.

Really wasn't expecting this much and it's greatly appreciated. Warning to any future new pipe smokers, watch out for this guy. Trouble is deciding which one to start with...

2810Big thanks to Tobias. Sorry I did not post to this till now, but I got lost in a boys weekend at the beach. And just in time I received a ginormous amount of baccy in the mail. 31 different types! Lots of things that I have never heard of before. A wonderful primer for the art of the pipe. Just before the trip I went through and catalogued the shipment and I swear I got a nic hit just from the smell of the tobacco, still sealed. I only got to try 2 because I tend to focus on cigars for these trips, but they were both great. Will have to follow up with the brands. This is much much appreciated. Thanks again.
