I have regrettably come to the conclusion that I'm gonna have to take a long, open-ended hiatus from smoking. Early this morning, I pulled out and fired up 1 of my last 3 OCC Man o War. Got nothing out of it. No joy, not even a pique of the taste buds. As far as tobacco goes, they're deader than :frank:

I just can't fathom how this happened. I'm at a complete and total loss, and know of no other solution than to walk away, and hope that in time, I get my tastes for tobacco back. I'm still here, and will continue to be. You'll likely find me hanging around the Motor Heads section, as well as the video game section. But, for now, my buying days are done. I may go buy and smoke the occasional, but that doesn't even sound great right now

Trent, I know you have been dealing with this for a while. I hope your cigar taster returns after taking a break for a while. I don't personally know many people who enjoyed smoking a good cigar more than you did. Maybe your palette just needs a significant break to reset itself.

Just a thought but have you tried smoking a pipe? I switch back and forth between cigars and pipes to keep some variety going.

Trent-

I hate to see this. I hope whatever it is squares itself away quickly for you. Hang in there brother.

Take a break. It'll come back.

Now that I only smoke a cigar maybe once a week, or not at all in the winter, I find the flavors are much stronger.

Ah man, wish I had some good advice to help out. Hope this break will do your taste buds some good, and be back to enjoying cigars soon enough.

Oh man! That's a buzz kill. Sorry to hear it.

P.S. Check out the side effects of any medication you may be taking, plenty of meds can effect your sense of taste

A fabulous suggestion. Not one I would have thought of.

Well that stinks Trent, but if it's not enjoyable best thing is to take a break.
Now you're going to have to figure out what to do with all that extra cigar money !

Kayla,
The only med I take is an ADHD med, Strattera. It's the only nonstimulant out there. Took it from '06-'15, and on it again since Aug. This issue started in Apr/May.
Thus far, I've gotten rare flashes of taste. Nothing predictable, and nothing helps. I've taken a week off and still nothing. Switched to water or sweet tea instead of coffee. Wineador, traveldor, bought and smoked at store, nothing. I'm thinking I'll try another in a month. We'll see. I'm currently applying for EMS and/or ER position with a hospital that doesn't allow nicotine usage, period.
If I do go back to cigars, I may only buy and smoke

I temporarily lost my taste for cigars when I was going through puberty :)

But seriously, maybe you just need a break, or more longitudinally, perhaps you might change your pace, e.g., one cigar every few days or so, something like that.

That's sad, but good luck with the position! Sounds like an exciting job!

Good luck with your new job if you can get in. It sounds very stressful, but very exciting at the same time!.....

So, I went 3 weeks without. Fired up an Ave Maria earlier, while taking a break from my guitar. Very good aromas, subtle tastes of woody notes and rich spice. The N bomb, though. OMG. Head spinning a bit now. Heading off to bed, have played so much for the first time in years that my hand, fingers and forearm are all cramped.

Glad to see things are better. I hope it stays that way.

Well you must be a better axman than me - I get sick of the sound of my own playing long before my hands give out :)

Welcome back to the land of the smoking!

One week later, another Ave Maria. Immaculate with Colombian coffee. Nice, but again, subtle. Toasty, slightly nutty. Course, I've got a cold that makes me sound like Gunny Highway. Gonna try this on a weekly basis
