Whats up Y'all? I'm somewhat new to the pipe smoking world, although I got a really good nights sleep last night. It was much needed too. Anywho, I kinda suck talking about myself but I can talk TO myself for hours.

What got me started? I guess you can say my grandfather. He was an old WWII vet and a pretty chill guy until you deserved his wrath. I figured it worked for him so I'd give it a whirl. I don't know if I even want to try to explain it, but there's something about sitt'n back with a glass in one hand and a pipe in the other. I can't wait for nicer weather...

I do have a question, actually opinions on a Georg Jensen Flame Grain? I'm sitting here doing a history paper for college and on a whim I bidded on an estate pipe. (apologize if I took it from anyone here, hope not) Besides my cobbs, I have one I use regularly but been wanting another to rotate. As soon as I finger out how to post a pic, I will. If I need to add anything, lemme know.

Thanx jhedricks83...Tgs679... and project sunfire! Also Nature for moving my post to where it should have gone in the first place.

Been reading past posts and glad I "stumbled" across this forum. I think I should've waited to purchase that estate buy last night but too late. It's already bought and coming from Germany. Hope it smokes ok. Did very little research on it and it seems to be in the upper echelon of quality. I think I am going to hold off on buying another estate pipe until I learn a little bit more about what to look for. One smoke at a time lol.

Welcome Gunny, and good luck with school!

Sorry, I have no insight to offer on that pipe. I mainly smoke cheap briars and cobs myself.

Welcome Gunny D , I don't have any thing useful on the pipe advice other than be careful you dont get caught up in
fads. Buy pipes you like and don't feel you have to buy something just because a lot of others have. I've around 30
pipes, but only 3 or 4 that are my go to pipes. First up is a Doctor Grabow Savoy that my wife got me, it's a straight
stem, rusticated billard with a saddle bit. Second is a Dunhill 137 FT that one of our brothers here gifted me. It's a
Canted Dublin. sandblasted finish, with a straight stem. The others are mostly all estate pipes that I got from Ebay.
Estate pipes are fine just look the pics over real close and be willing to clean them.

Welcome to CB, Jim! We're glad you came here. One of the good things about the pipe smoking pastime/hobby is that you don't have to spend a lot of money to get a good smoking pipe. If you don't have one already, get a Missouri Meerschaum corncob pipe; they don't cost much and they smoke good. You can pick up estate Dr. Grabow, Medico, Yello-bole, and Kaywoodie pipes at flea markets and antique stores and clean them up. Inspect them closely though and check for bit wear, stem fit, cracked shanks and bowls, and carbon buildup on the rim.

Here's some info on Georg Jensen pipes:
