I just popped a tin of Temple Bar, and see what looks like a small fuzzy spot on one side. Definitely looks like mold.
I sliced off a 1/8 inch slice from that side, jarred the rest, and put the slice back in the tin. Hopefully, nothing happens.
How long should I give it to see if it grows? A couple weeks? Or is that enough to send it back?
Wouldn't a very light spritz of distilled water in the tin, and some warmth speed up the test process?

Looks like plume
I wouldn't mess around trying to grow it, I'd just call or email and see what they want to do.

And once again, smokingpipes.com is amazing!
They are shipping out a new tin asap.

...or they just want your tobacco back so they can smoke it themselves. Plume on pipe tobacco is very rare :D

LOL. I like to snort the fuzzy plume! It makes my sinuses feel funny after a couple weeks!

Looks like mold to me. Those little branching structures are fungus stolons.

Already working on it with SmokingPipes. This is a bummer, but they are good folks.

indeed, as are the C&D crowd. luckily I haven't cellared any blends with known mold problems, which is good because they are going to sit for aloooong time.

Yeah. I've only got a couple, and I've been uneasy about cellaring them.
I have a couple tins of Sixpence that I might pop and jar, just for peace of mind.

smokingpipes does a great job with CS.
It seems like C&D has been having some problems with this recently. This isn't the first incidence I've seen.

Agreed and agreed.
It seems to be their blends that have the red virginia in it.
It sucks because they try to maintain their tobacco as organic as possible, which I applaud.
My tastes run more closely in line with what McClelland delivers, but I respect what C&D is putting out.

Yeah, I'm a SG and McClelland guy myself when it comes to Virginias.
C&D isn't my favorite brand but I do enjoy a few of their blends.
I do think they are the Rocky Patel of the pipe tobacco industry. By that I mean they have an enormous number of blends.
