Hey guys.
My Valentine's Day gift from the wife arrived at my office today. It is my first meerschaum pipe.
Is there anything in particular I need to know about it? Is maintenance that different?
We ordered it from royalmeerschaumpipes.com.
I did make sure it was 100% solid block meerschaum before getting it.
I love the way it looks and can't wait to smoke it.
Any tips on them from you experienced guys would be appreciated.
Here is what she looks like.

Don't build a cake in it and don't use any liquid to clean it. I've smoked aros and va/pers back to back
by just wiping the bowl out after each one. And Don't drop it on that tile. Otherwise load up and enjoy
the clean flavor of your tobacco.

^-- what he said, plus one of the good things about meers is that you don't have to rest them between bowls.
Also, don't smoke one in a public place bcs hot chicks will be climbing all over you and their boyfriends will get jealous :)

I was not aware of the fact that they do not need rest between bowls. Good to know.
And we don't need hot chicks climbing all over me, so I'll keep it for smoking at home. We don't need Mrs. Cool Breeze getting all bent out of shape. ;)

They're like cobs that way (the meers, not the chicks).

Having some Dunhill Navy Rolls in it right now.
Smokes really good.
Quick question. Do I need to worry about heating it up too hot? Or is it pretty much if I can hold it it's okay?
I'm handling this thing with kid's gloves for the first time. It's actually kind of funny.

Congrats! I know zilch about meerschaums, but that's a classy looking pipe.
I do know DLNR though, and it's a classy tobacco -- puffing some right now.

If it's a good solid block meer, it should be able to handle the heat. However, like any pipe/tobacco, if the bowl is too hot to handle, you're probably not getting the best flavor.
Re handling - some people refrain from touching the meer bowl as it picks up moisture/oils from your fingers, causing discoloration. I'm not one of those people.

PS, the other thing with meers is, avoid getting them wet. They're very porous, and water in the matrix can cause bad things to happen - cracks, splits, chips. If you do get it wet, let it dry thoroughly before using it again.
