View Full Version : Where are all the Liga fans?

It just hit me as I scrolled through "what did you smoke today" that I haven't seen a Liga there in a long time. Even if there's been one recently the number of Drew Estate products being smoked seems to have really dropped off. I liked some of the DE offerings but I never really went nutty for them. Any Drew Estate fans or former Drew Estate fans here? If so, what gives?

They are all patiently waiting for the big Orgy ! Did you see the stacks of boxes they hauled outta there last year ????? LOL
I'm not a Liga fan, but now that you mention it - I don't recall seeing many pics of them in the thread in a long time

Probably because I have been busy and not posting every day, lol. I love them, but I have been too busy to post up everything I smoke lately. Plus I can only afford so many. Those buggers are a bit expensive. Maybe I'll smoke one tomorrow just to liven things up.

Maybe Swisher has sucked the magic out of Drew Estate like a Vampire going down when Aunt Flo is arround.

I used to smoke Undercrowns on a somewhat regular basis but like the Unico lines I find there are things at that price point that keep my attention more.

I used to smoke them all the time. There are better cigars out there for less money for me plus I think the construction
has suffered.

Don - off topic, but let's discuss your signature of "Life is like a shit sandwich, the more bread you have the less shit you eat."
The addition of more bread does not decrease the amount of feces still in the sandwich. You're not removing more turds by adding more bread. So wouldn't the amount of crap stay the same? You wouldn't eat less of it. You'd maybe taste it less, but it would be the same quantity, correct?

Once the debate/discussion of life as a sandwich is ended/digested.
You may wish to examine this bit of research that's in todays news.
"Improperly cooked maize-based diets have been associated with higher rates of homicide, suicide and cannibalism in humans."
One might think that.
"Improperly cooked Human-based diets may be associated with higher rates of suicide among Cigar smokers whose ability to detect the Chocolate Pistachio fudge Ice Cream in their cigars is blunted."

By the way and to return to the topic.
Thru the courtesy of Sean The Evans (my Secret Santa) I smoked a Drew Estate Liga Dirty Rat about two weeks ago.....It was thoroughly enjoyed.

This alone is worth me starting this thread.

Not always, The more bread gives you the opportunity to just eat the bread without the crap. If very little bread then the whole thing is consumed.
More bread just gives you different options. Years ago, an old guy in a bar said that to me. Hadn't thought about it much since then. I think he
was referencing money but hey, I was drinking at the time!

Seems to me, cigars and even pipe blends are driven largely by fad and advertising. It's worse than women's clothing styles sometimes. Some hot, new brand springs up, is all the rage for a while, then dies down to nothing even though the blend hasn't changed. There are a few that hang in there long term (i.e. the FFOX line) but not many. I refuse to be suckered in to that game. I hoard cigars I like and pretty much ignore all the hype. I do like Undercrowns tho. Picked up a 5er of the Connecticut version a while back but haven't smoked one yet.

Not a huge Liga fan. If and when i smoke something from the DE it's usually a Norteno. Price is good and i love the profile. For the price of the top ligas I'd rather reach for a Padron any day.

My fav is still the dirty rat and FFP. But I go in cycles of what I smoke. I prob have 4-5 boxes of different ligas. Smoke a lot of drew estate stuff. Really love the undercrown shade. Smoked through several boxes .

I agree with Tombstone , the Unico are the best starting with the FFP.
Of their everyday more moderately priced, the Nica Rustica & Undercrown. I also prefer the T-52 to the No. 9. Had a T-52 two weeks ago but didn't take a pic. 😔
the JdN line is very good too!

I smoke a LP No. 9 once or twice a week, always a good smoke.

Undercrown Gran Toro today. Last one from a bomb I received from jhedrick83. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170129/173f6a9089d45b466851a6349515e297.jpg

I saw that Jonathan Drew was recently named the new President of Drew Estates vowing to bring the quality of the tobacco and product back to where they were when first beginning. I am not a fan, but thought those that were might like it.

That sounds great! Never really noticed the "fall off"! I guess that's because I haven't had much of the new production.
Which have you had Steve?

Brian, I haven't smoked any for the last couple of years. LP's just seem WAY overpriced IMO. I used to enjoy the UC Corona Viva and my local has some of the Shade I have been thinking about trying and will likely grab one on my next visit.

I used to be a big LP whore but have slowly cut down on purchasing. One factor is definitely price. They arn't cheap! My favorite has been the L40 closely followed by the UF-13. I will only buy some if I can find a deal. I think the other factor for me is I have found plenty of other stick that I enjoy as much if not more and for less $$$. Another thing is I tend to buy stuff and not smoke it for months...sometimes longer. And the LP's dont seem to age very well. Lastly, I prefer CC's more and more. So when I can get a box of something nice for what a fiver of Unicos cost...its not a real hard decision to make.

I like undercrown and dirty rats - the 9 & T52 don't come in my preferred sizes, nor do most of the Unico Serie. Have some Norteno resting, along with the more recent smaller version of the Nica- looking forward to both - but there's lots of options out there, so I don't get around to everything very quickly.
And the LP's don't seem to age very well.
I really use to enjoy the LP line; started with the T52 and #9 Flying Pigs. I also really enjoyed the L40 and Ratzillas, but like projectsunfire noted they don't age well at all. So if I do find them, at a great price, I'll only pick up one or two.

Had a few Niners, but never any of the fancy Rats, Pigs and L this and that stuff before. The prices just seemed higher than giraffe pu$$y. I do smoke the UC, Herrera Esteli, MUWAT, KFC, Nica Rustica and JdN offerings.......

I like them, but not at their price point.
I would buy more if they were $8-$9 apiece.
Right now I can't ever find any for less than $13 and most are even higher.
I can buy Anejos for that, and I'd rather have one Anejo than 2 of any Liga I've ever tried.

Shameless Promo- I can grab LPs and (most) Unico for under MSRP if any folks are interested. They just aren't very rare anymore (besides FFP) and prices reflect that in (some) areas.
