So take the poll and let us know which type you prefer.

I'll start.

Since I got my Xikar V-cut years ago that's about the only cutter I use anymore. Makes a nice cat's eye cut which I can test out the draw of the cigar. If it needs a bit more draw then I'll cut the opposite way to make a cut that looks like a +.

The great thing I like about the v-cut is I don't have to worry about cutting a shallow cap and having it unravel on me and it works for perfectos too.

I do the same. Xikar now has a keychain version I use all the time.

I currently only have a cheap single blade cutter that mauls a cigar as opposed to cutting it, and my sharpened .308 casing punch. The punch has done a beautiful job on everything so far, tho I have a couple smaller sticks it's too big for and a diesel unholy that just won't work with it so they're resting until I get something else. Plan to grab a decent dual blade cutter and a v-cut sometime to try

I can't take the poll cause I use a punch and a guillotine equally. Any size over 44 I punch anything under I cut.

I punch about anything (including some perfectos and torpedos)

Xikar Metal V-Cut for me. I say it's the 3rd best thing humanity came up with, after cigars and scotch.

I agree with David. Punch then cut the ones too small to punch.

Recently started punching most cigars.

I punch anything big enough, and cut anything small... so I didn't vote, like David.

same here. Hell I'll even use it on a torpedo sometimes. If its a large enough gauge I will sometimes do the x-cut. Since I have been using the v-cut I almost never have unraveling issues anymore

I generally punch a cigar, then test the draw. If it's still too tight, I'll break out the guillotine cutter. Would love to try a v cut sometime. Hard to justify $40 on something I may not like…

I like a V-cut but I haven't grabbed for anything but the CC perfect cutter since it was gifted to me. Just had no reason to.

While we're on the subject, are any of the cheap v-cutters even worth buying. I'd really like to try one before I drop the coin on a Xikar. What's the consensus?

I punch almost everything. I have never tried the V cut.

I also punch the larger 52+ and guillotine the 50-'s. BUT - since I seldom smoke a 52+ size, I DID vote - guillotine.

BTW... if it's a Torpedo that takes it over 52, that doesn't count. I guillotine those, too.

Yes. I bought a cheapie for about $8 and that's what made the decision to get the xikar. Still have the cheap one and use it when I'm off and away.

Is unraveling that big of an issue??? I consider myself pretty noobish and have some cockeyed cuts and have yet to have an unraveling issue.

Only had one unraveling issue and it was the from the first time I used a punch. But I'll chalk that one up to user error. I kind of punched it slow and cracked the cap.

I like a guillotine. Make a cut, cold draw, and either light it up or cut a little more if needed.

XiKar V Cutter! Lifetime warranty and it will work for anything. Any and all cigars. Second choice would be my new XiKar Xi3. Wicked sharp.

Oh the V-Cutter also is a cigar rest. :)

Fwiw, I usually wet the cap a little then slowly work the punch in, twisting a bunch. Solved my cracking issues

I received a guillotine cutter as a gift from my wife, so I use it.
Not having ever used anything else besides a razor blade, I am not sure if it is the best method.

I voted guillotine, but I've used a v-cut a few times and have been wanting to get one.

It's all about personal preference.

I tried a friend's V-cutter and don't care for the way it feels in my mouth.

I tried and have no objections to a punch, but don't wish to carry multiple cutters for different vitolas, so it's a Perfect Cutter for me.

I would recommend getting a cheapo plastic one to see if you like it. Then get the Xikar. It works great and you can't beat a lifetime warranty. I got mine on cbid for $34.

I use my v-cutter whenever I can. I have a bad habit of cutting too much of the cap off. The v-cut takes away my uncertainty. Stuff too small I try to punch. And torpedo's get the Dickman treatment.

I vote for the V-cut. HAd the Xikar cutter, but lost it in the recent move. Using guillotine for now, but will replace the v-cutter.

I normally use my calibri cutter, but I have a cheapie punch hanging on my key ring.I've had to resort to a box knife and now I keep my backup handy.

I prefer a guillotine cut most of the time. But I am not against a punch cut and if I don't feel like carrying a cutter I will bum my friends v cut. I like to do a double cut with the v cut making an x. The single groove does not do it for me, but two is doable.

I voted for the V-Cut. There are advantages and preferences for all types, but with the v-cut, I never get the tar build up that I sometimes do with the punch. And more importantly, with my Xikar v-cut, I can still make a perfect cut after my third scotch!

I can see where it would work with some perfectos but how do you punch a torpedo?

I lick the cap, use a small punch (usually a .22 cartridge), and turn it in one direction only.

I am liking the guillotine cut first, then the punch. My lighter has a pop out punch cutter so I'm able to carry both easily.

It's a Guillotine or V for me depending on the cigar, and mood.

Right now, my Xikar VX gun-metal cutter rules the world. I got one for Christmas after I lost my Xi1, so I've been down to that and a CC Perfect cutter. Even after I break down and buy a new Xi1, I'll probably stick with the the v-cut for awhile.

If I didn't have a Cuban Crafters Perfect cutter, would probably punch or V-cut. But the Perfect cutter cuts just the right amount.
